Well, this was a first…

Didn't want to start a new thread, figured it would fit here. Also a first. A few days ago Chicago Land area got hit with a Dust Storm Warning. First time in recorded weather history that has happened. Sky was clear and blue up here by the WI border but my youngest that does live in the city said..... it was pretty weird. Here's a few photos from local news.

Bloody weird...
Have there been drought conditions in areas near there in the past year or two?

Reminds me of the movie Interstellar.

Not really. The area is a little bit down on average rain fall for the spring. I think we came up short on snow. I think it was just a weird set of circumstances. A little dry. Several days of big wind. If I remember, the dust storm happened a day or so after some big thunder storms rumbled thru the area. I never really heard any of the weather guys give an explanation. And it was very locally centered. Like specifically Chicago. O'Hare was messed up for a few hours. Delays and cancellations. Not sure how many of the burds saw the dust storm themselves. And while its not uncommon for rural Illinois to get hit with an occasional dust storm.... it'd be very uncommon for the City of Chicago to get hit.

Just saw this for the first time. I was out of town on business when the quake hit but my wife told me at the time it was pretty strong, but not LA strong, if you know what I mean.
What was interesting is my iPhone got the alert about 6 seconds before the quake reached us. My wife’s iphone got the alert about 10 minutes later.
