As stated, Gotoh is not an option for me. I don’t care for them. I had a guitar with Schallers a while back and I liked those.
I was looking at Steinberger 40:1, I would try those but not in stock.
Graphtech is maybe an option but I was thinking $100 is a more reasonable limit.
Probably not going to find any not made in China but I would like to.

I've had them all, Klusons are by far the best I've tried and they come in all styles. Grovers are my second choice. I used to like Schallar, but I have several same sets of them and they are not consistent at all, some are smooth and some are really stiff.

Well, this is the norm. So a year or so back I bought a telecaster body from eBay or Reverb, one or the other :X3:
Anyhow, for that guitar I planed a different headstock design, one like the one @fitz did on his Brian May build. I bought 5 chrome Gotoh from source used for the bass side and 2 new for the treble side. One extra, tried it on the low E of the HB and works better than stock.
These tuners are different from the more recent ones I got from Warmoth.
So I will just need one for a right hand neck for now.

I Still want a better set for the gold Strat build.
I could swap the ones on the gold Strat (black matching) or take the staggered locking ones from my old gfs build for the HB, I have so many parts I forget. :bash:

Since I sort of half solved this by actually using some memory, I apologize. However I did want to know the opinions of people who had already gone through this.

My unproven theory of the Schaller is depending on the store, there is a crap ton of counterfeit products on the market today sadly.

The Schallers I had were from the 80’s before
kCh-_a infiltrated the market. If the product is real I doubt there are any defects but that’s just my old school brain. lol

The Klusons look really good. I am not against what Don posted about the hip shots because they had good reviews and the used Gotoh’s I have are likely older.

I like Klusons, specifically the old non-locking ones.

I have an awesome set of Schallers (factory original) on my 1980 G&L F-100, but that’s the only set I’ve ever had.

The higher-end Gotohs are good…

So I guess I’m no help to you

I would order Ratio locking tuners.
