Uh oh... this is a bad problem NO BRO wants to EVER see. Seized-UP!

Simple question... knowing what we know about both of these fine two TTR gentleman, and providing the hypothetical situation where they both offered us the favor, which one of these two bros are you going to trust to properly change the oil in your main ride so we don't end up seeing the likes of this?

I figure both dudes have done it before. Honestly, what bro hasn't? And boys-oh-boys, isn't there just SO many fun places in an engine compartment where you can dump that new oil in? Or why not even the stuff that just came out! It happens to be called "recycling," bro.

@Amp Mad Scientist and @Mitch Pearrow SJMP are going to battle with friendly, knowledgeable ICE maintenance.

Now is the time for them to reveal all the cool tricks and tips they have learned over the years, making sure the job goes trouble free and
real smooooooth (and is friendly to our environment as well!)

Let's go, bros!

So fellas, bro competitors what kinda "awls" are best for my truck... vegetable, olive or that maybe that pricey synthesizer stuff?

Or how about say that turny can-looking-thing underneath there ain't comin' loose, what's your tip on that one?

Anybody else ever make the number one common DIY oil change goof-up? I'll bet these bros wouldn't.

@Mitch Pearrow SJMP lives in Californy. I think maybe them parts don't even have engines allowed no more. Everybody has to use theys feet underneath the cars to skedaddle along like the Flintstones or something. but I'll be OL' Mitch still remembers the good 'oil days of a snug bung plug, dontcha?

Mitch. AMS would fill my oil with Bon Ami.
I voted for Mitch too.
I've been working on the car for months, and I'm getting weary.
I can't get parts, I can't get seat belts, I had to get seat belts from Walmart.
And that smog check, "inspection sticker," what's up with that? No more I say enough.
I'm going to wind up trading the Les Paul for car parts, and THAT is the limit, I've had it up to here.

Okay, I'm awaiting @Mitch Pearrow SJMP 's input, but I admit to being a bit stumped at the moment.

Perhaps a small quiz will help. I'll ask our contestants to please address the following questions, without searching the internet for answers:

1. Do you know what the Dexos 1 oil rating is, or do you know it's significance when changing oil?
2. What brand of oil filter will you use?
3. Do you prefer conventional or synthetic oil?
4. What should one do with the new oil filter just before installing it?
5. When installing the new filter, how far should you turn it after the gasket contacts the base?

Okay, that'll do for now.

I think Mitch is playing coy. Testing if it's possible to just coast on to Brovictory via goodwill and name recognition alone. Might work for a few easy votes. Not mine.

AmpMad's already shown an excellent assortment of tools and what looks like proper oil too! So he's runnin' strong!

I'd also ask what mileage both would feel is ideal for a change, depending.

@Jethro Rocker and @Far Rider up tonight in the TTR Bro-Brouhaha. Could be one of the more entertaining battles of the series as we seek the ultimate TTR bro!

Dexos 1 or Dexos 2? It's a high temperature lubricant that is used in turbochargers or in applications where residue buildup from excessive temperatures is a concern..turbos get hot as shat, they turn red hot sometimes. Dexos 2 is for diesel isn't it?
Fram I use the orange fram. I still use the old style one that lasts longer.
Synthetic Blend because it's cheaper. It's both synthetic and conventional mixed together for my POS car.
I should oil the gasket before I install the filter...
I think about 1/2 turn is the most I tighten it.

Can anyone answer these questions?

I could answer four, though I haven't crawled under one of my vehicles to do this for 15 years or so. But I think I know where I'm taking my truck from now on!

I have all the confidence in the world either of these gentlemen are fully capable of performing a service job on my vehicle. But I'm gonna throw Mitch under the bus and go with AMS. Reason being. While performing the service job, he'll also upgrade my sound system. Swap out the OEM sub for a much higher powered unit that takes up the entire trunk area. Adding power to the entire system, which of course includes new speakers all around. The net benefit of all the upgrades will not only be much improved sound, but also the sonic wave emitting behind my car will gain me a 50% boost in fuel mileage. Also included will be a "Special Feature" whereas I push a button and the new system will emit an EMP aimed behind the car. That will allow me to.... shall we say.... get the tailgater off my butt. Hit the button and kill his ECM, thereby disabling his car, rendering it a worthless pile of junk.

More or less I can answer all of them. Just wasn't sure that was allowed. But since AMS has..... the only one I can't fully answer is #1. I know what Dexos is since it's what the dealer puts back in our car when doing a service. Can't answer specs without looking it up. And I would add to the filter change, along with lubing the gasket.... make sure the old gasket came off with the old filter and isn't still stuck to the filter base. It's a mistake almost every mechanic makes (not all) and it's a mistake you'll only ever make once. Don't ask me how I know.

One thing too, many oil pan bungs have a nylon washer, You gotta check that, and replace once in awhile. And why not hit the suspension nips with a shot or two while you're under there anyway?

But nobody has mentioned the most common DIY mistake yet
