Now it's time for another matchup of two of the heaviest of SuperHeavies, Rush VS Zep. And, for the winner of this one, waiting in the wings? Pink Floyd. Sheesh! Tough gig!

I know much more of Zep than Rush, but they are not too dissimilar perhaps, and I believe Rush had a good number of zep covers in their inventory at one time, but I don't believe the opposite was ever true.

Both featured amazing drummers. Arguably two of the very very best. Great guitarists, wicked bass.
There are plenty of interesting comparisons and contrasts one could make about these two groups ... it's not my place to do it here. I want you fellas to discuss.I'm much too young to know about any of these grampa bands

I figure Zeppelin will win this because of the trend and the fact the timeline? Coordinated DIRECTLY with their existence ( yeah I was paying attention lol). But I'm going with Rush. Why? It's simple: Rush is the very definition of a power trio. Their first album was indeed Zeppelin sounding and Zep no doubt inspired them. But once Neil Peart entered the picture, Rush became an entirely different animal. Now they had a POWERFUL drummer with a technique that is still unparalleled in my opinion, but more importantly; they gained an incredible songwriter.

Rush left their bluesy hard rock roots and became THE premier Progressive band. 3 guys could do what other bands with more personnel couldn't, including live.

Zep is great but Zep also ripped off blues artists for 2 albums before becoming their own thing. Going on strength of albums? 2112, Farewell To Kings, Hemispheres and Permanent Waves stacks against any of Zep's 4 album runs you can throw together.

I'm going with Led Zeppelin.

I do respect Rush and admit to liking a prog rock sound, in general.

But, I think it is very hard to dispute the sheer monument that is Led Zeppelin. Though Rush and Led Zeppelin formed in the same year, the influence, reach, and raw popularity of Led Zeppelin eclipsed that of Rush. The difference in record sales alone is staggering. Rush has sold a little over 40 million. Led Zeppelin exceeds 300 million.

Walking up the Stairway to Heaven to drop a vote in the ballot box.
 
I can't think of any thing Rush did to influence me musically all down hill after Working Man
Led Zeppelin still love playing their songs I did see them their first US show at Green Lake Seattle WA not that great but after the US
tour final show in Seattle they kicked but and just got better through the years
 
I thought about this one a lot today.
On one hand you have Rush. 3 guys awesome songs, legendary.
on the other hand is Led Zepplin also legendary.

if you were to ask me, "which would you rather see in concert?" my reply would be BOTH!

I think I will go with Zepplin. I feel I am more familiar with their catalog of music.

Very good idea Mike. I hate to be persuaded by the fact that Led Zeppelin will likely win.
I totally agree and I agree with the Power Trio, Neil contributed a un-paralleled ability and like Tvvoodoo said “2 of the greatest drummers”

This vote is very difficult because on one hand , the band that forged my passion for rock with their 2nd album release and on the other hand a band I followed back and forth from city to city trying to see every show and following every lyric.

For me, though I've listened to Rush's stuff, I liked it, but didn't really feel like I wanted to listen to it again. On the other hand, Zeppelin's stuff makes me want to hear more.

I'll add that some of Led Zeppelin's stuff appeals more to my penchant for psychedelic music.
