Yeah, I know rockers and metal heads disdain ABBA, but they were a creative group. I had kind of an eye-opening experience during a New Year's Eve gig once. A girl that couldn't have been over 25 requested us to sing Dancing Queen. This song was put out in 1976 and is more like something her mother or even grandmother would have listened to. None of us really knew it except the keyboard player and lead vocalist/band leader. The key board player fiddled around during a break to make sure he had it straight and our singer reviewed the lyrics on her phone to refresh her memory and we did it on our next set. The rest of us sort of played along. I had pulled the chart up on Ultimate Guitar.

Personally, I never really worried about how hard a song rocked. I was more than happy to play crowd-pleasing songs. We had some rockers where I was in the "spotlight", so to speak. But, we focused most on keeping a crowd excited...which means keeping the girls engaged!

Oh, yeah...we added Dancing Queen to our repertoire.
ABBA was disco.
Horrifying.

Exactly! No I have not, not ABBA. Old funk is ok. I rarely dance which is fortunqte for others! :)
Old funk? KC and The Sunshine Band or the Bee Gees? The best Disco dance joint I ever visited was in Oahu (1978). A 5 PC band (all Janapese players) that performed as if they had invented Disco themselves. And then they rocked the house covering the Doobie Brothers and other bands. Good times!!!

No Bee Gees, no. The odd funky thing is ok at a wedding. Play That Funky Music etc.

Seems a bit extreme. I am a musician I don't like em. Don't have to. And it is indeed disco IMO.
To each their own musical tastes. It has nothing tl do with being a musician.

True. There is no requirement to like any particular band.

As for the disco question, I'm not quite sure. I do know that Google AI calls them a Swedish disco group. I guess I'd classify them more as Euro Pop. But, maybe that's just splitting hairs. Either way, they did get played a lot at discos.

Yah, gotta get on board with you there Jethro. Abba is some of the worst crap that has ever invaded my earholes. Lowest common denominator disco/pop crapola.
My wife listens to that stuff, as is her prerogative, but please keep it away from me.
