I've always said my two favorite bands were The Stones and Zep. This is ultimately the overall on the grand scale of life for me, however they have both grown a bit tiring to me these days. AC/DC I would say is more successful than Zep on the long haul and are still around in a much more relevant way to this day than The Stones. I've grown a bit tired of Bon Scott but I still find Brian timeless at this point in ..time. For me it goes to AGNUS and the boys. I can never get enough of Brian's first 4 albums.

This is excruciating. I'm reverting to my "desert island rule" ... which catalog would I rather be stranded alone with with... I'm trying to limit my votes to how bands impacted my whole life personally, as well as pop culture/social impact during the time period...
As well artistic merit (my own limited view) and NOT by units sold.

  • Back in Black - Released: July 25, 1980
Powerage and Exile are my
top two Forever Rock listens. AC/DC made me pick up the guitar. The Stones made me want to write songs.

Still thinking.

Nice reminder there. For me, the Stones ended when Mick Taylor left, although I gotta say I do love Some Girls. I haven't heard anything from them since that made me want to listen a second time.

And AC/DC died with Bon as far as I a concerned - not only have I never been able to get on with Brian Johnson's voice, but the songwriting really took a nosedive after Bon's death. I know Back In Black is revered, and of course remember how huge it was when it was first released, but coming so soon after Highway To Hell and Bon's death I couldn't help but notice how much worse a record it was.

As much as I always loved both Highway to Hell and Back in Black, it's the album that doesn't really have any of the so-called "Classics" that has always been my favorite: Powerage. To me it's a perfect album

This pains me so much. When Malcolm passed, I physically squeezed out a tear or two.
No other celebrity music star affected me so hard, at least so far.

But, I mentioned before how I felt maybe another band in this contest seemed sort of one-dimensional,
and AC/DC, as it's been pointed out, was very good at a very basic, raw visceral thing. Arguably the BEST.

But the variety of art the Rolling Stones output, how they almost moved with and shaped much of modern popular culture
through the 70's, even before I was cognizant of what was going on, the songwriting, the variety... and it stands up today.
Certainly no virtuosos themselves, BUT, that's not my measure of an artist, they moved, adapted, created and were always
causing ripples in the social continuum.

It boils down to Highway to Hell vs Some Girls.

I'm sorry bros, I would have probably have chosen AC/DC over any other band in this tourney.
But I gotta go with the Glimmer Twins, and it's twisting my soul into knots.

I was a fan of The Beatles and then I heard The Rolling Stones for the first time and have listened to the entirety of what The Stones and The Beatles have brought to the table (prior to and post of the 1968-1980 limited allotted time period) to be taken into consideration.

@TVvoodoo
Thanks for all the time and effort you have put into this. It's awesome!

I'm kicking my own ass for not paying close enough attention during the nomination process. I would have nominated The Allman Brothers Band. Know what I'm saying? Good old Southern Rock.

Aw man, I missed this one. I love AC/DC, but I would have voted Stones for the Mick Taylor era alone.
