As expected by anyone here not yet fully-debilitated by years and years of bad life choices, Led Zeppelin brings Steppenwolf to heel in the Battle of Evermore.

This has even caused TTR members who we hardly ever see to emerge from deep slumber in dusty caskets suddenly awakening, then poppin' off with both measured opinions and/or hot takes! So excellent!

So early in this tourney, and we've already had a call for members to hand in their guitarin' Man Cards...
a beautifully wicked affront of the most serious kind! Where do you go from there? I mean, it's not like we can actually sharpie a turgid tallywhacker onto each other's foreheads from a distance after they pass out, even though several of us have already earned reason to both give AND receive such a terrible tattoo.

Unlike the last, this next battle features two super-heavyweights. Personally, when I saw this matchup come together, I was like
Oooooooohhhhhhh :dancepoo: " this gonna be good!

I love both bands. One to me seems to be rather one-dimensional, but definitely earnest and committed to do what they did, at a high level, for a very LONG time. The other, helped shape pop music and modern rock on the whole, prototype the rockstar lifestyle, and practically invent the very idea of a loud, in your face genuine rock 'n roll spectacle, before many of the others in this contest
stopped wearing diapies.

It's time for..... The Who vs Judas Priest!!!

And, I remind you fellas, keep in mind this is about the "1968 up until the end of 1980. I know it's hard, because the totality of
any catalog can't help but colour our opinions and memories of these artists, and artists as they fully are.
But, for the time period, as a level playing field... Which was the better band, with the superior output of rock and/or roll music and attitude?



Above all, let's continue to have fun! This is 100% a celebration of rock music!
 
*Critical Edit* I see above that we are indeed confining the music to the era and not the band entirely, so, that's gonna pose a BIG problem for my pick down the stretch and renders my two videos moot*

With respect to The Who for their contributions and they had some great music, especially in the late 60s and mid 70s ? This is going to be a vote for Priest!


While Sabbath rejected the label of Heavy Metal though they invented it? Priest GLADLY embraced that title and ran with it. The took the twin guitar attack and fine tuned it into a mechanized assault.
They are indeed the Metal Gods

Pete will forever have a place of reverence in my mind as one of the driving forces not only in the creation of "rock and roll", but also as one of the main reasons that drum instructor named Jim decided to start building amps in the back room of his little music shop. Pete wanted louder, and the father of loud delivered.

My vote goes for the Who.
Pete, Rodger, John & Keith are all legends to me.

I'm a big Priest fan, but I rank the Who in the upper echelon of rock history.
 
The Who were composing an ambitious rock opera, crankin' it over Lily, hollerin' about a teenage wasteland, and holding back their love vengeance behind blue eyes and asking of us the most serious questions all through the decade


Pete Townshend.
John Entwhistle.
Keith frickin Moon.
And Rodger Daltry?

Most of which was in the 60s to be fair. Thry didn't do that much in the decade in question, if I recall. At least IMO.

"Battle of the Bands 1968-1980"
3 of the Who's 12 studio albums were prior to this timeframe, with 2 in '67 and their first in '66.
This disqualifies them?

So, we should also eliminate every band that made an album after 1980, like Judas Priest.
 
It's gotta be The Who for me. I just viewed them as being more authentic and "real". I'm not criticising Priest's music but their image is just a bit too theatrical and affected for my taste, with all the leather and studs and whatever. I can't watch the video for Breaking The Law without laughing and probably cringing a little bit.
