If there was no Jimi there would of been no Robin Trower. Just like Sabbath, maybe not the top of the list to alot of folks but how many bands can you trace there linage back to Sabbath ??? Alot.
There is no metal without Sabbath, period. This nonsense that it was Zep or Purple, is just that, nonsense. I love both of those bands immensely, but they were not what metal became, but Sabbath certainly wrote the blueprints and remained nearly undisputed for almost the decade of the 1970s. The only real challenger was Priest, but they didn't hit their full stride until around 1978

That's a fair argument lol

I tend to favor Screaming For Vengeance but I won't argue others either

'Screaming' was seismic when it came out, and still one that I listen to regularly. For me though, 'Sin After Sin' and 'Stained Class' were the ones that really got me. A bit darker, more stripped down production. I know they really came into their own with 'Killing Machine' and 'British Steel' but those were more of a mainstream sound to me and although I love them they didn't grip me the same way.

Nail biter.

This is a tough bracket to be in for bands like ZZ Top, The Jimi Hendrix Experience, or The Doors to win going up against Black Sabbath and the throngs of metal fans here, but I'll be content if ZZ tops Jimi. Pun intended :p

^^^^ And I'll add to it by saying that this Battle Of The Bands is much more entertaining than NCAA Sweet Sixteen basketball bracketing! (y)

What's messing me up on this battle is that four of my absolute, all-time, desert island favorite bands are in it (Rush, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Black Sabbath), and a high percentage of the guys that made be want to pick up a guitar in the first place (Lerxst, Schenker, Page, Ace, K.K., and my personal god, Iommi) so it will be really tough choosing as things go along.

As a non-metal guy* (I can appreciate certain songs and bands and I occasionally have vague dalliances with certain bands, but I just don’t listen to very much metal on a regular basis), I can say that I’ll drop out when it comes to certain bands and artists—I don’t sit around insulting them (except Yngwie), but I don’t have enough appreciation to vote for or against certain groups.

*I listen to everything but I play Texas Roadhouse Music (Blues + Outlaw Country + Rock-n-Roll)

I'm right there with you, Red. I listen to every type of music. The one and only CD I had ever bought and was thoroughly disappointed with was a Yngwie CD. I disgess.

Sudden Death !
This isn't a golf tournament, hockey match, football, or baseball. A tie between ZZ Top and The Jimi Hendrix Experience should simply remove them leaving The Doors and Black Sabbath to win or lose the bracket. Not my call, obviously, but I think it's a fair way to deal with a tie.
