Ok looks like Dio basically slaughtered Quiet Riot, (with quite bit of help from you guys). So far, all remains right in the world LOL!

I mean, I don't think Quiet Riot ever had any gigantic inflatable dragons, fiery castles, or dangerous swordplay in any of their shows? Thought so.
No more silly coin flips, just being rather un-metal and going clockwise... That means

Dokken V.S. Crue!

Ok, I've never bothered to learn any Dokken songs, but can half-assed fake through several Crue songs. Looks That Kill and Kickstart come to mind.
I do feel Mick's riffs are generally a lot of fun to play along with, and the Crue song structures are solid.

Managed to find a Dokken song that actually rocks, but they make us suffer through a guitar intro typical vid of a long-haired dude wandering around
the Hollywood strip at night, just doin' his thing trying to be being cool gettin' to the show... Then, happily, it morphs more into a typical metal concert video, featuring unexplained cutaways of a large snake, a fake castle, torches, rock star life but more importantly many glimpses of Lynch's sweeter guitars. And, at least Don is singing about tearing it up here, and not some chick who won't do him anymore.

Up against Motley Crue's earlier work establishing the prototypical benchmark elements of a cliche metal video... it's all here, folks. Scantily clad wimmen in cages, smoke, wind, fire and explosions, rattling chains, bondage gear, and flying pentagrams all over the place. Check, check, check and check. Yup. They NAILED it. Seems to be some kind of story here too, at least. Even if it looks almost like some kind of allusion to gang rape in the end

Certainly two stolid 80's rock bands that sold a lot of T-shirts and probably thousands of cheap guitar starter packs too, like the one @Thatbastarddon still plays. I'm really not one for the theatrics, the makeup, fake devil worship and all that, I don't think many would say Mick is a superior guitar player to George. But honestly? I feel in general Mars' riffs seem to tear more meat off the bone, and I'd much rather hear Don sing Crue songs than Vince sing Dokken songs.
What say you guys?

The capability of George Lynch is undeniable, and Dokken was, likewise, an undeniable contributor to the whole genre of '80s metal.

However, while I can't say I was ever a Motley Crue fan, it is easy to see that they very much eclipse the work of Dokken.

So, while I mean no disrespect to the Dokken crew, I have to render my vote to the Motley Crue.

Another blowout coming, im afraid lol

Dokken was good and solid for a few albums and George Lynch needs no introduction, as he is shredder royalty. Plus, they even did a music video with Freddy Krueger, so that gets points for me lol

But against Crue? It's just not even. Too Fast For Love and Shout At The Devil were as heavy as it gets. Things got a lil glammy around Theater of Pain to Girls, Girls, Girls but they re hardened their sound after getting sober for Dr. feelgood.

Crue and it's not even close

Funny that I agree. I was never really a cru fan but I voted for them. They do have some good riffs.

Listened to a lot of both back then. Similar to what has been said: George is a monster player, but vote goes to Crue.
1st few MC records, just - yeah.

this whole thread has me wanting to back and listen to some of these again, mostly to lift some licks.

I liked both bands back in the day.

I think it comes down to me asking myself, if I were going to be stuck on an island and only had the choice of listening to either band forever.
I really like Dokken, but I wouldn’t survive on a daily dose of it.
I’d pick Crue to be the band I’d listen to while stuck on Gilligan’s Island.
