Mouse Droppings

I went full 80’s with this one. Truth be told, back in the day I’d have broken my knuckles in my haste to switch the dial if this were playing on the radio. Listening recently I realized there’s some really good guitar lines in there and it’s a well done pop song. Time has softened my metal heart.

Great work there again @Mouse .

I know what you mean. Back then I was not a guitar player (not really much of one now either), I was a rock music listener. I listen to music differently now - more guitar-centric.

I had the same experience you describe - could not stand those Flock of Seagulls. But now, songs like I Ran, and I saw your cover of Space Age Love Songs- I really dig the guitar work.

Yesh, I was a typical narrow minded teen so for a time it was all metal all the time and most everything else sucked. Some years back i decided to expand my guitar playing horizons and learn not only non-metal songs that I like, but songs I didn’t like at the time. It’s really helped my playing as a result.

I heard it recently and I was like, “Huh I don’t recall all those guitars in it.”

Probably because I would bail during the intro keys. :D

That’s often how I pick songs these days. I’m always on the listen for guitar parts that sound interesting from songs I never listened to that closely. Plus I need to throw one in every now and again that my wife actually likes. ;)

Thru the years I’ve also bailed on songs after a few bars. Then sometime later listen to it all the way thru. Almost always I’ve gone…. Big dummy. That’s an awesome song.
 
This one has some nostalgia to it. Firstly, it’s from my favorite Def Leppard album but it also was among the early songs that I learned when I first started playing. I had a Def Leppard songbook which had transcriptions of the first 3 albums. This one was easy enough that I was able to play most of it fully through although I’m sure I was playing it wrong.

This is a great example of Steve Clark’s simple but effective writing style. IMO they never recovered as a band once he passed.


Mirror Mirror (Look Into My Eyes) - Def Leppard

 
I've been stepping away from the harder stuff for the past couple of songs. Given there are many metal heads here, I'll just hide this in here for anyone who might be interested. The song doesn't have any guitar so I removed the Rhodes and Clavinet piano parts as well as the harmonica solos. This was a fun exploration of more sophisticated chords that I don't often play when playing metal/hard rock.

I'll likely return to a heavier tune next. ;)
