My Santa Fe is just over six years old now, and because I haven't seen anything new to my liking to buy, I decided to hang on to this one for a while in the meantime. Last year had the rad flushed new antifreeze.

Been keeping an eye on the battery over the last year, it has slowly been on the decline, now down to 675 cranking amps from 800. So with this, the age of battery, and winter coming I decided i will pull the plug and get a new one, there is a lot of electronics in the newer vehicles that need the power.

And these batteries can just give up the ghost suddenly. Yesterday went to my dealership for the oil change and had them throw in a new replacement battery

Comes with 5 year warranty . Good to have that peace of mind , not having to think about being stranded somewhere.

I went through a battery fiasco with Costco a few years back. I replaced my battery in each of my cars, three altogether, and then had to re-replace two of them only months later. Not sure what was going on with their batteries but I ended up getting the same brand from somewhere else, and haven't had an issue yet.

I own a Hyundai, i am one, that likes to get original equipment for my vehicles. I find their parts are of high quality and give good life.

I installed a truck battery in my Hyundai accent. It's about 2-1/2X bigger than original. I buy Interstate batteries IMHO the long lasting reliable ones. I rather have all the reserve power just in case.
Batteries in general won't last more than 3-4 years they become weaker.

My neighbor has an Acura SUV that the battery is constantly dying in it. I've told her about a dozen times what happens when a battery drains and stays drained. She still insists her battery is good. Some people you just can't reach.

...which is the way he wants.

...well, he gets it.

My personal experience: In 50+ years of owning and driving cars. Don’t remember having a battery warn me. Except maybe a couple. No gradual decline. Just one minute the car started. 15 minutes later, dead as a hammer.

Professional experience: Worked behind a parts counter for 40 years. Sold a lot of batteries over those years. It was always odd that the OEM battery on the tractor lasted 6+ years but the OEM replacement could only make it 3. And yes. Across my counter we sold the exact same brand and part number that was installed at the factory. I didn’t sell an aftermarket battery. If they didn’t want my battery they went down the road to Napa or Walmart.

The one i bought was AGM Made for Hyundai. $600 later. Had no issues with it, turned over slightly slower i noticed and its just over 6 years old now. So decided with winter coming on , time to replace it.

  • Automotive Batteries feature the latest advancement in automotive batteries- AGM (Absorbed Glass Mat) technology
  • Delivers powerful and reliable starting in cold temperatures and provides extra energy to run all the power hungry electronics in today's vehicles
  • Ideal for extreme cold temperatures, vehicles with large electrical loads (DVD players, navigation systems, heated seats, power doors, etc.), vehicles used for frequent short trips or in stop-n-go traffic and vehicles that sit unused for days or weeks at a time
  • Exceptional ability to bounce back from accidental discharges
  • Clean, maintenance-free, non-spill construction
  • BCI Group Size: 94R (H7/L4)

At the Marina I retired from 4 years ago, sold a fair number of AGM batteries. Worked great in boats.

R u saying this AGM battery costs $600?

Holy sheep shat.
Is it that the battery works that much better in sub zero temperatures, to make it worthwhile?
Finally found it on the Napa website. Price on the 36 month free replacement is about 250. Price on the 72 month is 591. Yikes!!!!

I think you missed my link above Rick, I had already put in , but thanks for putting in your answer.

Yup, an Interstate battery for Hyundai Accent is now over $200 !
It used to be like $90-$130 3 years ago...and that just the 24 month MT series. They don't have a glass mat battery for an Accent.
More than doubled since the pandemic.

Yep. I'd seen your post. Was just trying to figure out why so expensive.

I've sold batteries for 40 years and never came across anything like that one. And I sold relatively expensive ones. Now, once I got to the Marina where I retired from, boats use some expensive batteries. There's one we sold that's an 8D Deep Cycle battery and are used for the house.... ie. everything except starting the diesel engine. That used a standard auto style battery(s). A 45-50 foot sailing yacht would use 4-6 of those 8D batteries. Each battery weighed 125lbs plus and one guy couldn't carry it. And they didn't cost $600 each.

Which was why I was trying to figure out why yours is so special. A rough rule of thumb on battery prices at the boat yard went..... a Group 27 battery (sorta a standard pickup truck battery size)..... A lead/acid battery sold for about 125 bucks. AGM would be double that. A Gel Cell would be triple the lead/acid. And if I remember right. We were selling a private label battery manufactured by Exide.

I used to have a Gel Cell in my Miata, boy what a pain in the kooster.
Little baby battery was so laughable. What a POS that was.
That car needed a Deep Cycle Marine battery.

When I have to buy a battery these days. I don't buy the most expensive and I don't buy the least expensive. I retired Oct 2020. At the time I was driving about 1000+ miles a month. Since I retired I haven't put 10K total since on my 2007 Civic. I had a bit over 190K on the clock when I retired. Figured I would have hit 200K by spring. I still haven't hit 200K.... although I do have it down to about 500 miles to go to get there. Mostly thru time I've tried to go with better rather than just okay. These days I tend to find myself being happy with just okay on a lot of things automotive. Now on my wife's SUV..... it's only about 6 years old and we're still treating it pretty decent.
