TVvoodoo's Straplab

Happy Hump Day fellow strap addicts and aficionados!

Today I'm losing hair LOL! The fellow who ordered the Mid-Evil and Tombstone straps above pretty much immediately ordered two more Mid-Evils when those arrived.
They are pretty good! Anyway, he's got some crazy gats, and likes to match 'em up, strap-wise. Now, I'm not afraid of any challenges, but some are harder than others, gotta say!

Here's what I'm dealing with:

National Pioneer model dobro, in a what looks like "moldy curdled cream" - I mean all guitars are beautiful
in their own special way, and I'm sure this one sounds pretty much like it looks when I think about it

zTN5o8FZ_o.jpg

Then this next one, a quilty Taylor T5 in one of the kookiest finishes I've seen,
they call "Grapevine." Me personally? Not something that would jump off the wall at me,
but if all guitars were vintage bursts, what a boring world that would be!

NI8lfXZn_o.jpg

Basically looks to my eye like a lavender to red burst? Got it's own special charm that's for sure.
I was to embarrassed to ask the dude, maybe you guys know... why two strap buttons?

Anyway, these are what I got going on right now... or had as of late yesterday, not the best pic

I2ydCzuW_o.jpg

I thought the red was going to be perfect when I sent the pic him earlier today, but then he asked me to darken it down a lot, and more texture because he figured it was too light. So, I'm in the midst of that right now, probably have it completed tomorrow. Not real sure about the nubuck coloured strap for the dobro either, but I think it's gonna work ok. He wanted "distressed" but I only have so many kinds of leather in stock here. I relic'd it up a bit, sandpaper, rasp...added a little shoe polish to darken some bits, add to the texture. But like I told him, one fellas "distressed" is another fellas "destroyed. "

anyway, I'm so glad to be able to share these with all y'alls. These kinds of challenges are pretty fun, even though a bit stressy too.

Here's a pic of the weave and rivet process for the mid-evil!

HkCCsVEt_o.jpg

This one I used slightly smaller rivets, and I think it will be the final design - also a slightly different weave that is faster and a bit less finicky.
Last two Mid-Evil prototypes #4, #5

SAAfO6bn_o.jpg

#4 is in Nubuck, and I relic'd it up. Also has my Class Act back end design.

Loving this strap! so much macho texture, really showy, but badass too.

A super customer in Washington state found a good un' in my store to match and sent over a pic ... is this burgundy mist?

First-ever online availability of the new Well-Hung "BeastMaster" which I can say with confidence is the most comfortable guitar strap I have ever made,
at least one I can repeat over and over again. Bear in mind I'm saying this after having spent over a dozen years chasing improved strap comfort.

This is #1, but will take special orders. I have since added my small emblem to the back end. whoops!

OZzFgbIy_o.jpg

Positives:
It's so comfy, you might not actually believe it, every time you put it on.
It's built tough and robust for pro-stage use, with an aggressive armored-plate appearance.
It's got a very controlled elastic / shock absorber effect
It has a padded and anti-slip lining, but can be unlined/unpadded as well.
Is customizable for particular leather and hardware finishes.

MPwLW1HB_o.jpg

It's the result of StrapLab experimentation with powerful elastic sports resistance training bands, using them as a base for a highly-functional guitar strap.
Plenty of good leather is involved.

KrlbNS1p_o.jpg

I fully realize I've made light of them in the past - "BeastMaster" does appear a little "Wookie ammo-belt-ish" by design.
I decided to build a 'comfort" strap that not only "looks the part" but also over-performs in that regard. BeastMaster does NOT sit up sky high on your shoulder.

So good I had to keep one for myself!

RAxSaiDh_o.jpg

3-1/8" wide on the shoulder, adjustable for length up to 60" if you don't want rivets, or hardware,
I can do that too. Customizable for back buckle instead of ladder-back as well.

I believe I will be making more of these, once they get out there. If you crave some pain relief, or just want something interesting and innovative,

Happy Fraiyday!

I'd be remiss to not mention another thing going on on my bench today.

We have a VIP TTR member, (actually you all are VIP's to me, some very interesting/idiosyncratic, a few very idealistic,
Still, as far as the straplab goes, quite a few VERY important) :pound-hand:
Anyway, brother @smitty_p been working on a "rat rod - metal" sort of semi-hollow project,
got the black and bling theme going on it, and he has spurred me into action!

No skulls tho, sad. Skulls are the realest, truest most cliche metal. Those and pyramid studs,
oh, and the pokey ones too. But, lets try to get somewhat metal without all the typical metal stuff.

I apologize again for being slow AF on getting to this, but we are into 'er now, boys!
I mean, just look at all the metal tools here! How can this not end up at least a little frickin' metal?

Unf7Mb7r_o.jpg

So measure twice, punch once is the rule. You can see how I I'm glad I did measure twice LOL! This is the
inside top layer of the strap, reinforced from inside for extra strength, for the beating back of demons.

Then...... BOOM! BOOM! BOOM! BOOOOOMMMMMM! The Hammer of the StrapGods swings into action!
I, myself am NOT a StrapGod. Merely a lowly human conduit, through which they desire to work their earthly magick.

Y8sTwQgQ_o.jpg

Actually, see? I have TWO godly hammers on my bench. The mark of a true craftsdude. Here, I have conked some big-ass grommets
into that beautiful long piece of topigrain moohide. And look! A couple of teeny weenie rivets up and down too. These are holding
some badass snake-embossed leather inside them portholes. Nine of em, because 9 is believed to represent completeness, balance,
and perfection
. The number 9 is also associated with the planet Mars, which is a powerful and aggressive planet. Also, there are nine
miles downwards into the dark and fearsome depths of Mordor, the most Metal of all holiday destinations.
OK I just made that last part up. Back off you LOTR lorefreaks

To be continued...

Looking forward to the strap!

I'm sure it will be fantastic.

@Don O best watch yourself, owning that much flamey tiger stripe, you might find yourself at odds with that Tiger King fella!
I think he's even a bit more unstable than you are! I really appreciate you dropping the photo.
You know? Jethro got himself a similar one, but haven't heard boo from him, maybe he's not happy?

But more likely I think maybe he shook the box before opening it, and it probably killed him.
No returnsies.

Strange day today... started like most others, sat down and resized some pics for a new Reverb listing called "Sharkskin," got it up and listed.
Then, I boxed and mailed out "Nukular Python" but suddenly ended up having to run unexpected errands that ate up far too much of the day.
Smitty's grommet strap sits there on the bench taunting me due to some semi-urgent life stuff that came up - I moved forward on it slightly
but tomorrow it will be done!

Sharkskin is pretty cool though. Fun story on how I acquired this leather hide, had to sort of slip into stealth mode to salvage it,
... pretty sure it's not real sharkskin. The story is on the Reverb listing.

This one is in pretty firmly in the top ten I've made this year, a No Prisoners series strap with my Class Act back buckle format.

Hope the weekend treated y'all fine, and none of you reprobates did too much jail time
I am full ready for winter now I think. Other than probably a new battery for the SUV in the next couple of weeks.

Custom order on the way to a forum brother in.. uh... hmm. I actually don't exactly know where yet!
But hopefully later tonight I will!

lrIuKsH4_o.jpg

This one's got nine big ol' chrome grommets with snake emboss inside the portholes, and is destined to hang a black and chrome
"Rad Rod" semi-hollow project, some of you may be familiar with. Also, fixed length (which I don't do that often,) double sewn,
and has a sturdy loop to clip a transmitter to, as it's for a busy working pro

kaol6NQJ_o.jpg

How many others out there find they've eaten too much halloween junk before the big day,
then end up having to purchase more? Guilty as charged!

I've started to tell some of my local guitar-playing friends about this strap.

Now, they're getting anxious, too!

OMG @smitty_p I hope I can I live up to the hype?

@Jethro Rocker - even if I do say so myself, that's a pretty killer looking rig right there!
As usual, fellas I will steal your pics, and use them for my own selfish purposes, unless you say I can't.

New in the store minutes ago, from a strapmaker most likely to not EVER make a KISS tribute strap,
is "Love Gun!" Are you ready to pull the trigger, bayyyyy-beeeeee?

efc7e619d82ed54e892987ac14e4f1a9.gif

Over 200 diamondy gems, some chrome rivets, 3" wide, padded and goes up to 60" long. if you are in a tribute band, and got the Stanley shimmy down,
this one will help you rock and roll all night, party every day, (like I'm sure they quit actually doing about forty-five years ago). Ok, except maybe Ace.

0rmpijhP_o.jpg

Also, got a photo back from BC yesterday. I love it when a plan comes together! Though on this one, I kind of feel like I got a little lucky,
because every photo I had of this guitar looked different, but customer very pleased, so I'll take the W!

Happy Hump day!

OMG!!! New Well-Hung strap arrives... guitar in the shop. PURE MADNESS!

bean-mrbean.gif

Happy Halloween my friends

Tonight I bring you a special new Wild Things issue called "Black Croc" now in the Well-Hung store.
I made two of them.

YE3Rnuxp_o.jpg

Rumor is, if you paint a large blood-red dollar sign on your floor, light some candles, and scream the name of this strap out three times,
one Lawrence Fink may suddenly appear and award you a GAZILLION dollar$$$$$$$$!!!

There's a bit more to the dealio, but that remains to stay detailed for your reading pleasure on the reverb listing.

HsdezKU4_o.jpg

Beautiful, timelessly elegant strap, with the badassery only crocodile-embossed cowhide can provide,
but also with the pure padded creature comfort Well-Hung is known for. 3" wide, 45-59" length.

Here's hoping you are all enjoying a fun evening that includes more treatery, less trickery!
