From Reaper to Studio One ...

I looked into Studio One a few years ago before I dove straight into Reaper. Not available on Mac at the time, not sure if it still isn't. I don't record enough to really bother learning another DAW. After running through Ableton for a number of years, struggling with that weird interface, and falling back onto Garageband, which feels more like Play-Skool level of DAW. I wasn't going to buy into the expensive version from Apple. So Reaper fit the bill. The one thing that really irritates me, is that every time I open up Reaper, I have the update pop up. Seems like they have a new update every few days.

Hahahaha! I blow them off on the reg…only when I have a moment, do I bother to fix something that ain’t broke…
But otherwise, same boat…on Mac here too…the Studio One version that I tried was early Mac (I guess)…I’m in agreement with the playschool GB…not, at all, my thing…not going for the Logic Pro thing here either…

I also have a Roland Quad-Capture that used Cakewalk LE that is now Bandlab. Free software DAW.
Ableton live imho sucks.

Lol. You guys are up on your DAWs for sure. I too hate that playschool feel that I felt with some of the programs back in about '15 when I did a look into some other DAWs. I was surprised how many sucked so bad. Reaper was king to me still even though there were some more expensive ones like Logic (I think) that were for MAC only, which I don't use. Apple always took lead with this stuff.

Yea, if you don't record much it may not be worth looking into. I just record vocals once in a while to be honest but I like the interface and the look and feel. I do $99 in no time with cigarettes, so tossing it into what I see as "more fun" (to me) DAW software is nothing but a night out anyway. I would never do a $500 tag like their pro with "social perks" and a few more of their plugs that I would never need anyway.

Interesting, when I tried to register for Presonus I found that I already had and account with purchased software. The winkie nozzles left me there with version one form 2011, which is a real nasty looking program. They didn't even update me. I thought I was getting lucky but I wasn't. Had to pay to play.

Yes, Ableton would require Zoloft to use it. It's quite depressing looking to me.

I wonder if Beagle will notice it's his song in the mix. I had to pull up something to look like I was actually doing something for the pics.

:p
I hadn't, I didn't look that closely.

Ive tried just about every DAW going over the years. I used Cakewalk up until ProAudio 9. It's a long time ago, in the days of Windoze 9x and soundblaster cards. I tried Sonar, but didn't like it. I must have been using Reaper since it was first launched. I used something else between, but I can't remember what, to produce albums from 4 and 8 track tapes...

Reaper still has some issues for me when I load in Wall of Sound for my IR plugin. Resizing the screen is the problem. I reached out to their tech support, which is essentially just posting on their forum, and got nowhere.

But hands down, you can't beat Reaper's YT help videos. There's so many of them, it's getting to the point of getting hard just searching for your particular topic.

I know this is a late response. I thought I was the only one that hated Ableton. The layout is odd and confusing. Supposed to be supper powerful, I could never enjoy using it.

It’s good to be inspired by tools that fit your hand. I was a hardcore user and defender of the niche DAW Digital Performer for many many years, but slid over to Logic Pro about 10 years back, and just found myself starting projects in Logic for its ease-of-use features.

Kenny covers most subjects but there is a guy that does mix craft that also does Reaper I think. I will reference him in a minute. Different dude , this guy Alejandro is a guitar player. So from that perspective is helpful.

Should have explained. In the days of paper parts books, not an uncommon practice to turn the book around so the customer could see the book right side up and pick out the part he needed. Got pretty good at reading part numbers and description upside down. Not really something I planned to get good at.... just happened,
