Is the used guitar market drying up.

This guy also says everyone wants small amps. I must say they make smaller amps today with big sound, reliable. Times are a changing. Not many guys today want to lug around those big heavy, Marshall stacks eh.. Could be a good time for someone who wants to pick up another guitar. The prices are coming down fast from what I have been reading..

As a guitar fixer and flipper, I have felt the impact of the guitar market for sure. The used market has slowed dramatically. I went from being able to refurb and sell guitars just about as fast as I could fix them up to sitting on them for 2 or 3 weeks at a reduced price point than before.
Plus people selling guitar want a premium for guitars that were not cared for and kinda beat up. The guy in the video is right. everyone wants max return on their gear.
Also, the trend for lighter smaller gear is a thing! Technology has made it possible. If you can get a monster sound/tone out of a modeller, why lug around a ton of gear.

Hopefully the used market isn’t relying on me…… ‘cause if it is…. There’s trouble brewing for sure. Zero plans to purchase a guitar anytime soon. New or used. Happy with what I have.

Edit: I really should have said.... can't play the ones I already have.... don't need to go buy more of what I won't be able to play.

One oddity I'm noticing is the price that people are getting for husks. That's what I look for. An SG Standard husk that has been BROKEN AND REPAIRED tends to run in the $750.00 to $800.00 price range! Husks for Specials are less expensive, but the Standards are pretty pricey.

Granted, some of these husks may sit for quite awhile before being bought, but sooner or later they do sell.

I remember the days when you could pick up a cool husk for under $400.

Yeah.

I had an idea for an SG husk that I wanted to build up.

I had a bit of sticker shock when I saw what asking prices are now, even for husks that have had a repaired headstock break - and not an especially attractive repair, either.

I thought the market was supposed to be flooded? Or was that only with Les Pauls?

I let my '58 Historic go for about a grand less than I could have gotten by turning it in to GC. Reverb was like "Repeat City" for these guitars and one's guitar getting sold would be more like winning a raffle.

It's not that the market is drying up.
It's not like new guitar players are springing up every day, and will need more new guitars to play...

It's that your income is staying about the same, and prices keep rising, the money you have is worth less.
Disposable income: "extra" money that you spend on fun, whim or lark, isn't there anymore. No wonder people stop buying.
