We live in MA, her buddy that has the puppy is in North Carolina, so I don’t know how that is gonna work.

Talk to your local shelter about pet transport. Many airline workers use their flight benefits to transport animals between shelters on a voluntary basis. You’re not too far from Bradley in Windsor Locks. Maybe they can arrange something. My wife and several of her coworkers at Logan often fly down south to pick up cats or kittens from shelters, then meet their new owners when they return.

It should have said "Churlish not to" but it appears the spell checker is unfamilar with with Britspeak too Fairly common over here, but mostly us oldies.
