Usually C G D A Kerry.What is the tuning?
I’m tuned in 5ths with the low string being D. D A E B low to high. But these can be strung and tuned many different ways such as an octave mandolin, bouzouki, Tenor Banjo, guitar, etc. What is the tuning?
Funny, I think I worked on Rick Neilson’s mandocello. His is a Gibson from the 1920’s.
The tuning I prefer is one step higher. Starting with D.Usually C G D A Kerry.
Thanks, my wife has taken up ukulele. I've been playing with different tunings to play along with her. So far my favorite is a baritone uke tuned D G B E. I've also tried a uke at G C E A with a low G string. I don't like the normal high G. I've been thinking of trying a tenor guitar. Different instruments with different tunings really makes you think about the notes because there are no familiar patterns to fall back on.Usually C G D A Kerry.
I prefer to use the standard folk tunings, as I play with traditional folk musicians. It's what I've used for over 50 years, I see no reason to complicate matters. The tuning I prefer is one step higher. Starting with D.

I like mandolin tuning esp when being played against a guitar tuning. Once I figured out the the mandolin fingering was just the guitar backwards I could instantly play about anything. I’m more into Americana rock-folk like Wilco and the Drive by Truckers.I prefer to use the standard folk tunings, as I play with traditional folk musicians.
