Announcing... RiffMasters!

There Is NO Blue Wire! ( Spy Theme )

As the film begins, our hapless hero is working a dead end job as a valet parking cars at a casino in Las Vegas.
A chance encounter with a mysterious woman will lead him on a whirlwind global adventure including multiple
car chases and attempts on his life before he ends up in the same parking garage from the opening scene,
trying to defuse the remote detonator circuit for an incoming tactical nuke while being talked through the process
by the tech expert.
(The detonator is located under the passenger seat of the
Lamborghini he parked in the opening scene; there's always
got to be the mysterious woman, the exotic car, the serious threat, and the tech guy, right?)

i was originally going to call this Theme From 'The Accidental Spy', but then i remembered that Jackie Chan already
took that title, so ...

That was super cool. I listened to it first before reading the description and the imagery that popped into my head was palm trees in an urban environment. Very stylized. Florida came to mind because I love Burn Notice.
Then I read the story and saw a parking garage in Vegas, plus a Lamborghini, so I would say you absolutely nailed it.

I downloaded an orchestra pack the other day looking for a trumpet sound I liked for the funk submission, and then it snowballed really fast lol.
Where did you get the pack from?
You sneaky bastard!!!! Keeping the goods from us??
Share it with your Uncle Evil and I’ll let you stay in the guest room for the long weekend.
Although you may not want to sleep on those sheets.

All the stuff I used were free downloads.
Most of the orchestra stuff was Spitfire Labs BBC orchestra. I also used their “choir” plug in briefly when the spy lets her hair down in the video.
The synth stuff in the beginning were a few sounds from Triple Cheese.
It doesn’t come through great, but there is some 8-bit sub bass bumps in there too.

The air plane, bomb, heartbeat monitor and street noise sfx were just random samples I found online.

It was very encouraging to be able to get a hang of some midi stuff so quickly. I definitely need to work on my keyboard skills though lol. I’m hoping to translate some of the same melodies and motifs into a “vintage” version next.

Anyways, I made some watermelon salad this morning with mint and basil from the garden. I was going to give it to my parents but instead I’ll be by the penthouse with it in an hour. I just need to slip into something less comfortable.

My left hand is as good as it ever was, thanks for asking, but four weeks off kind of busts your chops up.

I leave the game for a day and a half and all hell breaks loose! @Aynirar27 drops what may be the most on-point
submission of the game yet, with his "Agent 27" Spy Theme. I don't know... it's crazy suspenseful, seems musically inspired... almost as if this fellow has lived the spy life before, or is waiting in one of those sleeper cells or something.
Is it just me? Seems LIKE It's Stranger Things/X-Files flavoured too ... but totally works for the spy vibe too.
I am sure glad I activated him to create and post that wonderful soundscape... it just SOUNDS like he had a complete blast making it.
I particularly like the dynamics of it, it's rather mysterious sounding, as it should be. The symphonic cymbal crashes are so VERY good, then the distinct
feeling of impeding doom it gives one towards the end - I'm looking forward to Agent 27's second spy mission too, maybe more guitar oriented?

Then @frostyjr2 drops her "Spy Game" theme "There is No Blue Wire" which I admit I'm probably not musically sophisticated enough to be able to critique proper, and sure not like anything I expected for this challenge... however full marks for sticking to her own style guns and, it works rather well... I love the concept of the bomb defuse fail, and I tried to make it all work nice with the vid... the story of the parking attendant and the lambo is pure gold too!

Here is that submission in proper form, put to the MODERN video bed... and I'd sure love to see her try a more traditional styled version too.

Both of you got the Sound Effects so you'll get some bonus points. But again, you can (and should) both try both versions. The hardest thing might be picking which one to go up for the vote, perhaps taking into account how other RiffMasters reacted, how strong YOU think it is, and the timing of submission.

Just want to say since I added video for Frostygal's (and did as best I could timing-wise (busy in the shop today)) Frosty's time/date of submission will be noted as when I uploaded the video.

I've got my own first "Spy Game" version in the can mostly, just working on adding sfx... hope to have it up soon. No special spy tools will be required to listen

Once again anyone can jump in at any time. It's fun, and will really gets the creative juices going. For realz!

Here's my RiffMaster Round 7 "Spy Game" entry #1
titled "Cloak and Dagger"

Opted for the more trad sound/style, clean guitar, tremolo, but also added synth string stabs, and
modern gain which picks up as you get halfway through. Particularly like the tribal drums, (MT drums) and the driving bass I laid down. Had no idea what I was going to do with the guitar, I just laid down the bass first, then plopped on the guitar, one take each track, there's bloopers, but I moved on.

Hardly spent any time mixing, mastering... just flopped it out to render pretty dang fast. It feels
to me more "immediate" and edgy maybe partly because of that? I'm diggin' how it builds in intensity.

For sound effects, various zaps, electronic ambience, stuff I have pack-ratted off discs and discs of SFX from back in my TV days.
If you may notice, deeper into the video upload (about 4 min.) you'll find a bonus plethura of these types of sound effects if you may
happen to be looking for one or two for yourself.

I actually rendered the video track with a bunch of unused ones still sitting there after my video (audio only) by mistake LOL!
Lots of fun stuff there, though it's pretty old-school sound design stuff, like from the 80's but still handy to have. Quite useful.

I have tons of it here, more than I'll ever be able to use. Problem is I don't have the proper catalog to find what I'm looking for too easy. Major time suck searching through it all . When I worked in TV commercials we'd all have our favorite stingers, whooshes and zaps cataloged in our personal production binder, but I lost mine somewhere along the road. Like four pages of the best stuff, all written down, easy to get to. Every time we'd fly in some "SALE ENDS FRIDAY!" text or whatever, we'd drop in an exciting audio "whoosh!" You've heard it thousands of times. We're all kind of numb to these now, but when they are NOT there you might notice.

Anyway, this was the most fun challenge for me so far, I couldn't wait for this one.
I'm looking forward to doing the other version if I can squeeze out the time.

Another great entry. Gonna be another tough vote.

@Aynirar27 brings to mind antique shopping on the boardwalk with my favourite lady. There we are enjoying the sunshine exploring all the outdoor tables... she's dressed in a flattering summer dress with a silky scarf... I'm all natty in my light summer linen casual suit, and straw fedora. We've had a few drinks al fresco, at a nearby cafe, stole a sensual kiss or two, but then... my wife catches us and all the good feelings and fun ends pretty fast after that...

I dub your piece "Boardwalk Surprise" and it's fully 4 points ... now go enjoy your holiday!

ok boys and girls, it's way passed my bedtime, but I was moving and grooving with my MODERN SPY THEME submission. Not gonna lie, I'm pretty proud of this one. I hope you guys like it too. I think it's worth a listen on headphones if possible.
Looking forward to the vintage one as well, maybe I'll even play some guitar on that one....

Thank you @WavMixer for the fireworks, as I present to you Agent 27

Sounds perfect, it seems like there is an avalanche of music going.
I am doing nothing. I have to work 4 hrs. Tonight. I did order a new to me computer.

Thanks man. New computer days are pretty exciting. I know absolutely nothing about them but the laptop I use seems to run reaper fairly smooth. It gets glitchy from time to time but it is what it is. I didn't have any kind of computer for almost a decade so I grabbed one a little a while ago when I decided to take a stab at recording again.

Still running the old machine. I thought I might try cutting a few tracks for a spy theme. I might be going overboard with sound samples.

I rendered 12 short tracks to stems in FLAC. A variety of sounds, percussion, Ochestral , keys , synth and sound effects
No issues running on Mixcraft through the line 6 as an interface.

Droppin' in my Round Seven Guitar Duel Jazz Odyssey you know it's gonna be fun when
there's a clam in the first ten notes in LOL! Guess I lost my chance at that Vegas residency :sad face:

Felt like bustin' out ol' sparkles for this one for the sparkly fun toanz Good for four pts anyway!

I love jazz a lot, to listen to casually. Particularly Latin, Cool, and the big band 50's, Sinatra etc.
I turned to it often around 1991 when modern rock suddenly changed drastically.
Comes to crazy be-bop or free jazz, nope, not for me. I feel like I need modal themes, or melodies
I can hang onto. But Jazz is great, kind of like metal, there are plenty of interesting subgenres to explore
and a lot of great musical history and super talents. But I sure can't play it for :poo: LOL

Very cool! Like in the jazz way and the Fonz way!
