Is there any reason you could not use brass???

I had a an Strat copy once that would buzz if you pulled the switch tip off and touched the blade.

Thoughts???

BRASS BALLS ARE GOOD.

tARNISH ON SAID BALLLS CAN BE PROBLEM
but the gold hardware they use tarnishes as well....and cant be cleaned with ball wash---er BRASS polish .....

GO BRASS and kick some ASS

Yes. If you use brass you'll open a rift in the inter-dimensional space-time continuum in Middle Earth.

Smitty...I recall a post where we talked about shielding with paint...I just did this on a buddies Strat guitar and thought you might find it of interest.

When using conductive paint, I have wanted to ground all the cavities together. What I did was, I added a matchbook-sized square of conductive copper in the floor of each cavity and soldered a small ground wire between them all. I also added copper strips from the screw holes down the walls of the cavities. Instead of using an aluminum pickguard shim for RFI, which I have been using now for quite a while on Strat-esque guitars, I now just cover the back of the pickguard in copper tape.

So far this seems to be a really good, much faster shielding method with the paint....

The metal body of the switch wasn't grounded. You get that a lot with Strats.

I seem to recall that old Strat had a plastic switch body....

Silly of me, I guess, but I am trying to come up with a very unique looking knob setup for my "Number One" Strat-esque guitar that's coming back to me in a couple weeks after being out on loan to a fellow musician here locally. With cream humbuckers and gold plated brass trim rings, I thought a solid brass knob/tip might look good on an all-black guitar with a black pickguard, but I remember that buzzy-ness I encountered once and thought I would ask the question.

I found some really nice, solid brass, gold plated knobs from GFS with pearloid inserts in the top that might look better than the old cream colored plastic knobs you see everyday...

I dont see why not .Probably just add weight is the only thing.Tele knobs are some kind of metal.Well the switch tip isnt.

Number One is solid mahogany body and neck and it's really light...nowhere near as heavy as my 10+ pound 1987 Korean made Squire Strat...probably never notice the knobs...

Oh. It could be that the protruding metal stub was actually a part of the moving contact. That would be hellish hummy when touched.

I have some better quality, all metal Switchcraft stuff laying about...that may do the proverbial trick...I like how the brass stuff looks... :-) KIDS!
