I have not made this public, however perhaps I should have a while back. I figured John would make this public if he wanted it known. I received this message from John on Apr 29, 2024...

Grant, as you may know I've battling stage 4 lung and liver cancer. To make a long story short, I was doing good, so much so my oncologist took me off the chemo. The bad news is the cancer has come back and is more aggressive and spreading. My Doctor is going to try a new chemo cocktail, but he's reluctant about how it will go. Therefore he has labeled me as terminal and has estimated my remaining time as 6 months to up to a year.

I've been pretty busy getting all my affairs together so that explains my absence on TTR, I'll keep chewing in every now and then.
Hope all is well with you, talk soon.

~ John

@iblive sent me a message today that he read a post by a John on FB that the doctors have suggested he might be better served in Hospice. Those of you who know John may wish to send him your blessings now. I hate to be blunt about a topic like this, and it rips my gut apart thinking about the all to many friends and family I have lost due to cancer. I recently had the opportunity to say goodbye to a very old and dear friend hours before he passed. If anyone is still in contact with him on FB, phone or what ever, I would like to thank him for all he has done and say goodbye. Perhaps get family contact info.

Cancer sucks. I’ve had my own bouts with it and I’ve been very lucky so far. I’ve lost several close friends recently to it as well. I just turned 70 as well.
I just lost my oldest, bestest friend of over 50 years to cancer a couple of weeks ago. Add 3 other close friends, my mother, brother, daughter, 2 brothers-in law all within the past few years, I've been surrounded by it but so far by the grace of God, I've managed to dodge that bullet. You may have seen the notice about the memorial for our own Inspector #20 last weekend. He did not pass from cancer, however he is yet one more friend that is no longer here. I guess that at the ripe young age of 66, I should start getting accustomed to this by now.
