I loathe what they have become.
It's just a device designed to drain your wallet.
They started out good.

Samsung , it's making me angry.
I just don't like the last update but it goes much deeper.
Phones used to do exactly what you wanted them to . Plug in headphones , use a memory drive.
My opinion of the cloud is similar to my opinion of how I earn money.
It's a cumbersome interaction that always brings me down.

Hate them honestly. I would concur it is our own greatest Achilles heel in this day in age and a true addiction in the strictest sense of the word, of which I'm guilty of right now by typing this ironically enough lol

It's even sadder watching kids not being kids because of them ( yes, that is an old guy statement for sure)

I got a new iPhone a few weeks ago only because it was a good deal and the cam was supposed to be so awesome. Well, it's so-so I say and certainly isn't near competing with an SLR (like they would maybe like you to think). I remember in the past Apple would slowly slow down the phone through the software so it would eventually come to a crawl and you'd have to get a new one. Fk asses. I guess I see what happens.

Most of the time I forget about it and it goes dead. I rarely bring it anywhere. I hate cells and they are nothing more than a novelty in their "smart phone" usage.

Nothing that’s been stated already is off base.

For me personally, I don’t have an issue with today’s “phones.” Oddly. I don’t use mine much as a phone. I hate phones. Doesn’t matter if it’s hanging on a wall…. Sitting on my desk….. or the phone feature on my cell phone. Hate phones!!! All comes from 40 years behind a parts counter and the phone was a big part of my job. I would rather send a text. Send an email. Any option as long as I don’t have to put something to my ear and talk. Most days I don’t even turn the ringer on unless I know I’m going to have an incoming call. Figure if someone needs to talk to me they’ll leave voice mail.

I do use it as a computer rather than turn on the lap top. Google things. Text. Emails. Keep track of the ball game. Use it as a radio. Check weather. Maps and GPS. Bunch of other Apps…. Some I use daily…. Some not so much. And yes. I play solitaire.

So I guess to answer the question. I don’t hate them.

The actual smartphone doesn't piss me off... much...
Are they too expensive? Yes, it's ridiculous that you can buy a more powerful laptop than a smartphone for less money.
Are they intrusive? Definitely can be.
Are they a necessary tool for my job? Yup, no doubt.

But...
The thing that REALLY pisses me off is the never ending parade of freakin' zombies everywhere glued to the screen as if their entire life is in it. Pathetic...
The number of times I'm riding my bike and the zombies have no idea I'm 10' away is insane... At the last second they wake up, see me and are shocked I'm right in their face. SMH...

I like my phone.
It's a Pixel7 - nice features and size.
Keep it with me at all times - and hardly ever use it.
Phone calls now and then, a text here and there, and a card game or two while having a smoke or taking a dump.
I completely agree that phones are a scourge to society, but I choose to waste away my life in front of a computer...

@iblive sounds like you need a friend.
Give me you number. I’ll call you. We can trade dad jokes all day
I don’t shun contact with people. Not a day goes by where I’m not texting with friends from HS. My two boys. Grandkids. Former coworkers. Brother. In-Laws.

The issue is the using a phone. I would rather have root canal than talk on the phone.

I use my phone as a phone.
I talk sometimes, text with it (obviously not whole driving etc. My life is really not that self important). If I have to look something up while out,I can go online.
I use the odd app - for football tickets, parking locally...
Past that, I use this here tablet - similar but not something one takes out with them all the time - for browsing around on TTR. Laptop amd desktop for evrything elee.

The problem is as pointed out, younger people (generally) are glued to them and cannot do without. It is a sad commentary to be sure. Internet has lots of good and lots of pitfalls. Does one need to be on social media constantly?
Just ridiculous.

I like my phone. I need it for emergencies and to get in touch with people. But not to replace life.

Everything is a cheap distraction designed to keep us down.

Remember back when we didn't have these things? I didn't think my life suffered at all when I didn't have what didn't yet exist.

Kindof a simultaneous blessing and curse all conveniently packaged into the same singular unit. Which way the scales tip is anyone's guess at this point I suppose.

Totally agree with everyone. The technology has it's merrit but the competition to build the higher end phones and the storage decline happened and they ruined the music usage for me.
I want to put 40 or 50 albums on a phone drive so if I need to here something I don't have to rely on sketchy wi-fi.

I have 128Gb storage on my phone. Using around 1/2 of it for Apps, photos and videos and about 1200 songs. That works out to a bunch of albums.

I have the same amount of storage not sure how much I used but its more than half.
I have a offline game and several apps. One is a tuner.
Lots and lots of pictures and video.
Both my recordings and concert recordings. All backed up to my account.
But I use my phone for work to.
I don't have to but I don't like carrying 2 phones.

I need more storage and less fluff. No cloud storage because relies on internet what is sketchy at best depending on where you are. Let's say on a cruise the Bahamas in the middle of the ocean with worse than dial up wifi at an alarming price per day.
Perhaps I would want to use the phone instead of a laptop for recording.
Not happening unless you use youtube or bandlab. In short time it would be full.
The newer phones do have more storage but still, I don't like limits. Period.
