What a show! Here in Central Washington, seeing the aurora is somewhat rare. And especially not of the magnitude of what we got to see last night. I've been reading that people as far south as New Mexico, Missouri, North Carolina and even California saw them last night.

Did any of you old faarts manage to stay up late enough to see?

Did anyone get any cool shots?

At around 1:30-2:00am PST they started becoming very active. Beams of vibrant lights dancing on the sky, streaks shooting across the expanse, flashing as if some distant finger was flipping a switch on and off. It was all very reminiscent of a psychedelic experience, and not something we see often here.

Very, very cool.
 
My wife and I went out before bed and enjoyed the show... but usually up here we get greens only, like last night. It's relatively common up where I am so, we are much more used to it... but I can definitely understand the wonder and awe for those who don't see them often.

I do recall in Portage la Prairie, Manitoba, back in 1998, April 11th the most wonderfully intense show I may ever experience... pinks and orange, purple, green & blue... crazy fast movements in shimmering waves across half the sky ... just a far-out experience. I remember the date well because I was home alone exhausted, feasting on KFC takeout...
My daughter Chloe had just been born very early that day, and I had finally made it home after supporting and coaching my wife through an arduous 36 hours of labour, then an emergency C-section (which I also fully witnessed in the operating room by her side.)It was all a success, if rather taxing, particularly on me LOL!

The light show was just icing in the cake for a very memorable life event.
 
We're surrounded by too many trees. Pretty much impossible for us to see the north sky without driving somewhere. We will be out and about this afternoon. Should be coming home around sunset or just after. So with any luck we may get to see a little something.

I knew about but I was out about 8:00 pm
However I work nights. Got home around 7:00am
I had to get up at 5:00 am to take the lady to PDX

We were driving north from Chicago after sunset. Guess around 9 when we got home…. We live a few minutes from WI border. There was nothing at that time. And not going to get up at 3am. Get dressed. And go for a drive to find an open area on the off chance there’s something to see.

Oh well. At least the dog was happy to see us when we came in

Meh, you're just being polite, I've seen your photography :rolf:....I just took these with my Galaxy s20+. I bet YOU could have really captured some incredible stuff with your camera!

The only time I saw it is when I went back country hiking at Yellowstone for 2 weeks.
It was quite a show...

Have you ever seen the Green Flash?
I've seen it twice. But don't blink, McBlink, you'll miss it.

"As the sun’s disk diminishes, the green light becomes concentrated and separates from the other colors, creating the brilliant green flash that captivates observers..."

Best N Lights shots I ever took.
Lame tho in comparison to the night before.
