TVvoodoo's Straplab

Today saddened by the loss of Joe Flaherty. I spent many hours in the studios of ITV Edmonton,
where SCTV was first taped.
For sure. Sad day. RIP Joe. You were a funny man. Way back in the day my bride and I watched more SCTV than SNL. Frankly. SCTV was both better and funnier.

Just to be clear, I never actually worked with the cast of SCTV, though I met Andrea Martin once, known as Edith Prickley.
The ITV studios were the original shop where SCTV was taped, for a couple seasons in the early 80's, but the production moved to Toronto
once they got some market momentum. ITV had big photos of the cast up on the wall there. I worked there part and full time in the lighting department between 88-91, as well as at the soundstage next door for larger TV movie stuff as a grip. It is now a Global TV station.
I had a chance to take home the large "Great White North" set flat, once but I didn't own a truck, when they were cleaning out the
scene dock. Still kicking myself but I guess in hindsight hauling that thing around for five moves would not have worked. A person could
pretty easily recreate that for a rec room wall, would be pretty fun

Three new ones hit the Reverb store today... I'll bet you have a guitar that could use one of these,
and I know for sure your back will thank both you and me, after your first rehearsal or gig.

Dress for Texas series... in Aged Pewter on Mahogany, Bronze on black, Old Gold on black

yUulgOKO_o.jpg

All built on my regular 3" wide black leather platform with three carefully chosen and placed padding that will ride on the road of you like a luxury Cadillac, baby!

9DlWSPO1_o.jpg

Heavy black leather nose, ladder and tail, plus a no-slip lining. It's just the best strap, don't ask me,
check what my over 1,010 ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ FIVE STAR ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ Reverb feedbacks have to say, from
a fast-growing Well-Hung Warrior Tribe of repeat customers.

You will most likely NOT find yourself shorted out on the last rung of adjustment. These all go to approx. 58" long,
which is about 8 inches more than the typical ladder adjustment style you'll get from guitar stores and most famous brand name strap companies.

A link to my reverb store is in my signature. Turn your phone sideways to go see these and more!

Today in the shop, calling this sort of a prototype, proof of concept sort of deal. I've wanted to tackle this famous "Randy R." style strap for a few years now, but his was unpadded, just regular leather and no lining either as I understand it.

I want to offer a padded version which make the brightwork quite a bit more of a challenge. Then, I was poking around on the web for photos... many black and whites, research led me to discover the version we see in the old photos was not actually nickel or chrome brightwork, but done in what appears to be brass or antique brass.

sIKrcBn8_o.jpg

This goes against the grain of the other replica versions I've seen offered by a number of strapmakers. Anyway, not looking fuel any "divisive strap controversy" that may arise, I just went after three different looks of my own style on the bench today. Took me all morning just to get the metal bits on, about a hundred of the little buggers on each strap.

Left to right, Gunmetal (black Chrome), Antique Brass, and regular Nickel versions.

PupMXaDS_o.jpg

Still have to get the holes punched in the ends and singe off loose threads etc... but these should be up in the Well-Hung Reverb store tomorrow sometime, or the weekend. As these are prototypes, I will change small things in the design if/when I do this again. So these go up at a lesser price because this won't be the final Well-Hung version - They still has great leather front and back, and padded in the Well-Hung way, so I'll bet already the most comfy version of this pattern in existence, I'll bet.

I'd like to shoot for getting the rivets to lay a bit flatter on the top in my next try, not so much of a quilt effect. Though I gotta admit, the quilty plush look makes this strap a little bit more interesting. The side lighting here kind of accentuates that, but it's there. There'll be more photos under different light in my Reverb listings.

Have you ever wondered about Well-Hung Pro-Pins? both Brian and I say leave the relicing to the custom shops, amateur relic jobs can look well, so amateur.

Weekend is coming!!!!

Great looking harem of Well-Hung instruments sent in by Collin out in Ontario

Brand new in the store today... a couple of "Concrete Python" guitar straps. Ordered this leather in from Italy, it's pretty nice, though the hide was a bit smaller than I was hoping. This is made from lamb that was printed, finished, then a run under a laser to cut out the scale pattern, revealing gray suede underneath the top layer of skin. I think I'll safely be able to get four out of what I go. This is one of the first couple. 3" wide as usual, heavy black harness leather on the ends, Cadillac-padded in the shoulder. This would wrap nicely around a silverburst, I think, or anything in the gray/silver realm. The scales even have a little glitter to 'em

Speaking of Cadillacs... got these photos in from Paul in Las Vegas last week...

gBV59EB0_o.jpg

I sent out the Circling Ravens strap without a hole in the tail strap, which threw both of us for a loop! Thankfully with minimal instruction, he was able to perform a successful hole-making operation, and is now enjoying a Cadillac-worthy luxury ride for both his Deans!

Cut my damn finger real bad this morning so can't type too good.
But, I did manage to complete this Cowboy Prayer "Blackstone" version that'll be going into the Reverb store tomorrow

O6BIHRC6_o.jpg

Rare Superduty floating pad strap, non-slip, strong, hand-tooled, 15" pad, 3" wide.
Front buckler for show, goes 49"-57" Good quality buckle set, @Cadorman knows!

myERGDFf_o.jpg

Good strong reins! This was a custom job, but then the dude changed direction on me.

QT1S7fiw_o.jpg

Won't be playing any guitar for a while. :-(

Happy Friday! Need to apologize if you were interested in the strap above, "Blackstone." The fella who changed directions on me changed again, and now is figuring he wants the original, AND the new one together. But I haven't seen any money yet. Here's "Scorpio" completed today.

I'm being gracious to him, as he's a longtime multiple customer. Says his girl put his Well-Hung banner I give out, over top their bed. Talk about pressure! "Scorpio" is a little simpler, no big fancy buckle up front, mahogany dye, contrast stitching, otherwise similar. at the 50-58 length will work nice as front or back buckler for many guitarists.

pretty fine-looking pair! (if a bit out of focus LOL!)

al80PfWE_o.jpg

I'm still not 100% sure he's going to pick up both, anything he does not, goes to the reverb store.
Have a great weekend brothers

Couple new ones in the store recently completed:
"Gator Crossing"

tm3OzBtV_o.jpg

This is was devised for a high wearer, or a lady, looking to get her Well-Hung swagger on.
It's a bit shorter than my typical build, (but actually about as long as your typical storebought, at 38"-52" max).
Luxe Well-Hung padding that will make you wish you found it ten years ago, black calf leather with a semi-gloss shine. I added some fancy, too.

Here's something rather different - New Prototype of the "Slash 'n Burn" - will continue development

5bZ2eKZV_o.jpg

Flies in the face of almost all I stand for except one thing: Super badass coolness! This guitarist torture device called a "skinny strap" is something I've resisted making for, like, forever! 'Til now. Seems there's a demand for such things, machochist guitarists who crave the cool rebel vintage vibe. Mine is kind of extra over others what with a bunch of conchos, hand tooling, hand burnishing of the edges, "Burntwood" dye scheme etc. I added a bit of yoga mat padding in the shoulder. Shoulder section is 1.5" wide, so think of it as a heavy duty custom belt, specifically made for guitar slingin'

mbcmt5cB_o.jpg

Looks crazy cool laying on my vintage burst strat, but it's not something I'd want to wear for 2 hours, unless it was sitting on a leather or denim vest or a suit jacket with some padding etc.... I'll leave it for you rough 'n tough bad boy types. As this is a prototype, I tested this design with dual Conway buckles, but I probably won't keep doing that. Seems to overly complicate something that doesn't need to be. Very strong and secure.

Been quite a while since I added some "fabric-centric" straps into the Well-Hung store, and my Mexican blanket series has received no attention for too long of a while... so the last couple days, no siestas at all.... I've been getting my "Bandido" on!

QBGY2Vkz_o.jpg

Most of these float between about 44-57 inches, and are like a guitarists dream, they are so comfy!

Above top, L-R "Cayenne" "Plateau" "Vinto Tinto", bottom row "Agave," on the far side "TGTBTU"

3" wide on the shoulder, real good trusty leather ends, a whole heaping helping lot of picante South-of-the-Border flavour.
Super on telecasters in particular.

Coming Monday to the Well-Hung Reverb store... a couple of really interesting No Prisoners series one-offs completed today...

"Flower Power" will soon find a new life as a killer hippy-dippy guitar strap, where it was once a designer ladies suede belt of the "Guess" brand. I added some matching oil-tanned pull up leather, luxe padding and a nice long tail strap. Very comfy, 3" wide. Super far-out embroidery, man, and some long fringe that's just plain outtasite!

7fIOr1a5_o.jpg

Once in a while I'll make a strap I almost cannot hardly bear considering parting with it's so dang bitchin'.
"Mr. Cool" is absolutely gonna make somebody's rig 33% cooler, and the owner will probably be able to
lay off the blue boner pills for like, forever! Might even stimulate hair growth too!

LYWt6Ed4_o.jpg

Beautiful macho, braided black leather. So handsome! And, it has that evil little glitter too with
all that texture, plus a little spring too. I chose NOT to pad or back this one. Goes to 60"
My opinion, this is an amazing piece, it's gonna fairly fly off the shelf, I predict. No early birds.

Well-Hung No Prisoners series straps are crafted from found items such as these belts then I figure out a
way to make one-of-a-kind guitar straps that are sturdy, comfy, trusty and treasured.

New in-store today, "Burntwood" which comes with a tale of the Wild West, and the dedicated pretty ladies willing to listen to lonely cowboy problems of the day. More of all that on REVERB

Limited edition series, crafted specifically for those tobacco vintage bursts where a guy is seeking something extra handsome and comfortable. Black, tobacco browns, contrasting creme stitching.

zfe1JT9q_o.jpg

Key features: 3" wide, rolled edges, all leather, 45- 58" long, Cadillac padded. A total experience.

jGl0iYkD_o.jpg

For the flashy showmen, a couple new "Disco Stu" straps also appeared in the store... also no compromises on strength, length or comfort.

This is the one you want with you on the desert island, so you can easily signal rescue planes overhead, if you want.

Been a busy few days with family stuff, moving my son out of his dorm, he's graduating with a degree in Computer Engineering.
Will he be designing the worlds next quantum computers, building a monstrous data centre, or robot operated bitcoin mining
operation on mars with Elon? No, he wants to focus on .... wait for it.... gaming. Not designing them either.... outside I LOL but inside I'm QC

So we got him moved, during a blizzard, poorly planned on his part for the access/entry, had a flat tire in the midst of all of it, but it is done.
Now to pay for four years of whatever that was. Does anyone need a strap?

but the straplab is operational again! Fresh off the bench, "The Continental"

jsWv9Poo_o.jpg

A elegant fabric strap, with the embroidery in burgundy, browny reds, and gold on a silky base of black. Very substantial thick but silky material, this strap looks handsome under lights, 3" wide, heavy leather ends, padded like yo mama and up to 60" long! That's long!

In the opposite direction, this new turquoise leather material i found, smallish remnant, made a couple of shorter "Girl Power" straps that go from about 37" to 47" - A brand new limited addition to the Well-Hung ZAP! line. The nose and tail sections are in the same matching light creme pebbled leather as the bolt.

I know ladies in particular REALLY appreciate the typical plush Well-Hung padding in the shoulder.

KkTDkJ1y_o.jpg

Not in the store yet, but probably tomorrow morning after I have my coffee!

Meet the newest No Prisoners addition... "The Influencer"

Named as such due to the angle pattern of the black chrome studs reminded me a little of the design you see
on Fishman Fluence humbucker covers. Maybe a little spacey?

nv78gDoR_o.jpg

This is simply a ladies fashion belt I added to a nice black lamb leather base. The larger gunmetal studs were added by me also, to balance things out a bit. 3" wide, rolled edges, goes 44- 55"

Very soft! This strap is truly ideal for a weighty guitar. Like it will feel lofted on a cloud. Heavy duty strap, a little more similar to a golf bag strap than a guitar strap. Got a little beef to it, with heavy leather ends and the Well-Hung padding inside. Look for it in the Reverb store on Monday.

An iconic piece of Canadiana right there.

Goin' into the store soon is "Mercenary Style" ... a guitar strap cocked 'n loaded with prepper vibes. Another No Prisoners series strap... meaning there's one only.

nexb3wri7erwtqfnp394.jpg

3" wide black sheep leather, a perfect fit for the likes of you! Kinda thick, but real soft too. Then this olive drab suedish belt sewed on, after it got invaded by nearly 5 dozen nickel grommets.

eq9eesxzvtn2fyv1zz6q.jpg

So comfy with my Well-Hung padding, goes 45"-58" (most fellas hang in the 53" zone). Heavy black cowhide ends, nose ladder and tail, black velvet lining.

Unfortunately, there will be a waiting period to purchase... It goes into my Reverb store Monday. However, lucky for you, there will be absolutely no psychological evaluations or background checks required.
