Gardening thread?

Does anyone else here grow their own?

Here's a thread for pics and tales of the homegrown.

Started planting on April 8, (under the eclipse - I fully expect these beans to grow high into the skies :ROFLMAO: )

I've got three varieties of garden beans, beefsteak and early girl tomatoes, mammoth jalapeño, baby belle sweet peppers, habanero, sugarsnap peas, picklebush cucumbers, zucchini, acorn squash, butternut squash and even some pumpkins just for fun.

I'm itching to get some more peppers in the ground but I don't know that I really need to.

Some pics:

We gotta grow everything here in raised beds, because we got gophers everywhere.

Gardening thread... WTF?!!???
I just buy thread at the store.
BTW, how long does it take for thread to be ripe?
Depends on the cultivar and the available growing season in your locale.
My threads tend to go sour faster than others though, YMMV

I made tomato cages this year out of some old sheep/goat pen fence panels, and an old roll of baling wire. Took a little work to lash it all together, but these suckers are stout and won't fall over later in the year when the tomatoes are loaded, heavy, and trying to lean over

We're surrounded by timber. Critter's eat pretty much anything that isn't metallic.

The trick to keeping the critters away is....

Well....someone, please let me know when you find out?

I've thought about planting things they like that I don't mind if they eat away from the garden.

Thought about dumping coyote piss all over the place.

Thought about a good ol stakeout with proper tools for the job, be it air or gunpowder

Dang ol critters!

By the way. That’s a cool looking setup. We’d have to do similar raised beds and surround them with wire fence to keep deer out.

I almost wish these were a little bit taller beds, actually. They're low enough that ya gotta hunch over to work in them, hard on the back.

We get occasional deer, but with the fruit trees and the alfalfa and everything else, they rarely have need to come near enough that they'd get the garden

Living next to a national forest we get critters that eat everything. So I built my wife these 3 raised bed planters last summer. Each has its own irrigation timer. This will be the first grow year. The wife bought a bunch of different seeds to start. Being at 5600 ft altitude we have a short growing season. Check out the 2 deer in the last pic. That was taken a few days ago.

We’ve gotten something like that from “the depot” and sprayed the flowers and plants along the house to keep deer from eating them. It’s 50/50 on how well it works. Having a dog now for about 7 years peeing and pooping all over the yard certainly doesn’t seem to deter any critters.

I bet a guy could wrap these structures in some clear plastic and they could function as a couple little greenhouses too!

Anyone know how to deal with a woodpecker without actually having to harm it?? Knocked this hole in the side of the pump house just this morning!
