Got this yesterday:
Marshall 5100 split channel 100w 1x12.

Someone swapped out the original G12H-100 for a P.O.S. 70/80.
I have a screen clip of the listing pic showing the original speaker, so I called GC customer service.

They called the store and were told it was a re-listed return and the original pics were re-posted.
Either someone who returned it swapped the speaker, or someone at GC did the deed.
They offered me a full refund (including shipping) or $100 credit on my gear card.
I took the Franklin and I'm keeping the amp.

This is going to be a replacement for my 5010 that I have in my tinkering room in the basement.

The chassis is the same size, so I tried it in the little green head shell inverted.

Not sure if I like it through those 210 column cabs, so It's back in the combo case and getting a tour of the house going through my speaker collection on other amps ATM.

70/80 for sale...

Is that picture upside down, or am I standing on my head?

Why is it that no one ever complains about the upside-down chassis in the old JMP combos?

I do, I don't like controls on top though. I read once that the reason they do that is because back in the day (before heads and stacks) they used to put the combos at the front of the stage so they would project better and when you're standing behind your amp like that it's facing the right way and they just continue do it that way.

Everybody is switching to combo amps now...they are tired of hauling the heads and stacks...
so we are back in the day again.

Well not everybody.
Mini heads and mini stacks are "in."

But one thing is sure, they are weary from carrying those big 4X12 cabs around....

This wasn't showing up in what's new. I missed it but I did see the other post.
I do remember thinking how crappy it is that someone swapped out the speaker.
I would have done the same thing and taken the gear card.
I popped the old 5010 Lead30 chassis in the 5100 combo cab with the original G12S-50 speaker and sold it for what I got the 5100 for net of the credit.
I'm thinkin' at was basically a free upgrade.

I've never had a combo I really liked the sound of.
I seem to settle on a head and two 1x12's or a 2x12.
Also never had a 4x12 cab - I'm sure I'd like the sound, but they always seemed too big for my space.

I haven't ever had a 412 either, but I had the chance once to plug my Cameron/Jose HG into a 412 and it was incredible! That's one of the main reasons I'm considering a 1965 with 4 10"s. I imagine it sounds as good as everyone says it does and it's not as big and heavy as a 412.

Try one if you can.
I've heard many people say they're just like a 4x12, but smaller and easier to move around.

I've had a pair of 1965's, and ran multiple amps through the stack.
One had original 10L-35's and one with 10" GB's.
10's just don't do it for me, there's something missing from 10"ers, no matter how many there are.
I'd rather have a 2x12 given a choice.
But I may have no idea what I'm doing, so please don't take my word on it.

Actually, selling my little homemade 2x10 columns tomorrow local from a CL listing.

I am kind of opposite on the 10's
however I never had a 4 x 10 but I did have a 4 x 12 not a (Marshall cab)
My best experience with 10's was the little JTM 30. I used it as a cab and worked very well fo me in a small room.

Well what do you know, talk about timing. I just found a 1965 A cab I could snag for a reasonable price and shipping. I couldn't pass it up and ordered it. If I don't like it I'm sure I'll have no problem selling it because they're hard to come by, believe me I've been looking.
