Yeah. But I ain’t gonna pull an engine out of a C3 Vette just to paint the block. Blue is working just fine for me. :run:

Edit: Should add maybe if I was 20 years younger and had plans of doing cool things to the engine. Yep. I’d paint her orange. This stage in my life, I no longer have that much ambition. Happy just to drive it.

My first car was a 1969 Chevell SS it was a repo former owner put a 427 with tri power
I got a deal on it my grandfather sold the property to the Chevy dealer.

When I was turning 16, found out after the fact that my dad had a line on….. and this is a 50+ year old memory….. an SS396 Chevelle. 68 or 69. Also a repo. But bank had too much money left on it and dad passed on it. Most likely. He did me a favor. I would not have been able to handle it.

My first car was a 68 Camaro, 327 4 speed, 410 gears. I bought it from my best friend who lived across the street. I was with him when he bought it 2 years prior (he was 2 years older than me). So when he turned 18 he joined the Green Berets and I talked my dad into buying it for me. The 327 did 13.3s. I ran the crap out of that car, as did my friend. Wound up putting a 402/375 big block in it that was heavily modified. Bigger heads, cam, headers, Holley 850 DP. It got 6 mpg and did 12.5s. That thing could pass anything but a gas station :rolf: . It was the fastest car in my high school, over 2000 students back in MD. That was 1972-1973. Then the gas crisis hit. :run:. Sold it to a guy from VA.

No real good photos of it…

I owned a car in the mid 70s. Small block. Never did anything to the engine. But it had a 3.54 gear in it. 0-60 was decent, but at 220hp it was no race car. But with that 3.54 gear. It is the only car I ever topped out. At about 110mph and closing in on 6500rpm…. Hyd lifters started floating and it didn’t/wouldn’t go any faster. Only did it once….

The Vette has a 3.36 gear. I’ve had it up near 100 but not faster. It still had room….. I didn’t. At about 45 years old. Married. Kids. Just not worth pushing things faster. Basically. I just drive it to get the “looks.” And…. “Hey…. Look at me. I’m a stud and drive a Vette. Bet you wish you were me!!”

My dream car from my HS years and just out was a 1969 Charger. I didn’t need a Hemi. 383 or 440 would have been fine. Didn’t even need to be an RT. I just really liked the looks of the 69. And still do. I settled on a 70 Charger with a 318. Still was one of my favorites….. and still wish I’d never sold it.

Next up for my lust list was a 69 Z28. That never happened. That one makes me sad. The 68/69 Camaro’s were darn sexy looking.

Not a Challenger but a 68 Charger vs a 68 fastback. I got caught up in sound effects. They did a decent job.
Best I can tell from a search they used Nascar audio ?

My high-school friend had a ss 396.
That thing would glue you to seat when he hit the gas!

Had a friend with a 67 442. Same with that car. He wasn’t real smooth with the clutch. He dropped the hammer one day and like you. Planted me in the seat. Then clutched to grab next gear and I bounced off the dash….. then back into the seat after he grabbed next gear. Wild.

I had a buddy with a 360 gremlin
And a buddy with a 289 pinto
My 74 AMC Matador had a 360. Didn't run too bad for a heavy car. Pinto with a 289 makes way more sense than a Vega with a built 454.... As in Baldwin Motion cars out of New York.

Lotsa barrels, there.

I used to have a Chevy Nova with a 250 straight-six and one single-barrel carburetor.

Yeah, wasn't too fast. But, I could always rely on that car and a carb rebuild was pretty easy - about the same as rebuilding a lawnmower carb!
First car I owned that didn't have a V8 with at least a 2bbl on it was our 86 Cavalier..... and it had throttle body fuel injection.
