Curious about all the crazy variations on the holes in Stratocaster pickguards....I was aware of the early 8 hole, and the more modern 11 hole variants, but I didn't know there was a 9 hole version too.

How do these variations relate to a specific era???

Robert, start here for 1954. You'll see that there's a link to the following year's Strat (1955). Each page has a link to the following year's page, and work your way up though the swingin' '60s. :)

Link to the 1959-1960 page:

"Some July '59 Strats even had a single-layer white pickguard with 8, 9, or 10 screws (though this is rare)."

When I'm in a Strat mood, I get lost in all the amazing detail and history this website contains. Pardon me while I use my time machine (if eSGEe is not using it) to go to '54 and get me a new Strat! LOL

A local buddy has a stack of black Stratocaster pickguards, cut for a Floyd Rose, with 9 holes in them. I first thought "Squier Bullet," but they are a full-size Stratocaster pickguard...maybe a production goof??? At any rate, $25.00 for 25 pickguards is a deal Adrian wouldn't pass up!!!!
