What happened to the Message Thingy?

I was reluctant at first, but I've warmed up to the chat box. I don't much care for the pics, they aren't clear and they're out of context, if you click on them it takes you to an old thread somewhere. It might be cool if they came from a gallery or something, but just picking random (often non gear related) pics out of old threads is kind of weird.
 
Grant, is there a way to personally or have you turn off the chat thing and pictures on my page?

I find that it gets in my way of finding the content that I want to come here for. Or if the chat box thing has to stay, can I put it at the bottom of my page, where I seldom go?
 
So.... how exactly is this thing supposed to work. Can't use it from my phone at all. I think I've added one message via my laptop where all I had to do was hit Enter and it went. Now, can't even get it to work from the laptop. Hit Enter and nothing. Not worth having if it won't work. JMHO.
