I did the same thing with an old Crown bass amp which sounded just peachy. Today I would just replace the transformer which got smoked. At least I would take it to someone who knew better. I made some unwise decisions back in the day myself.
 
I trusted a friend who had played longer than me plus who was 10 years my senior.

NOW I know better and have way more knowledge due to these forums and the good friends who have taught me a lot about amps/ electronics and diagnosing. Now I am not clueless.

Laments with Tony,,,,,,,,,,,,, especially since he said he sold his Hiwatt.
 
Only a week? I been depressed at selling my Norlin LP ( first guitar) and my Basket weave 4x12 Marshall cab, many of my drums, and amps etc for decades now.

Best practice amp I have ever owned, by a considerable margin. Truly astonishing sound quality for the money (the caveat here is that I replaced the speaker which made a big difference). Can't recommend it enough, and the 100-watt versions would be gig-worthy, no problem. The 50 is a little anemic-sounding at high volume so I wouldn't try anything more than a casual jam with it.

Dude, it's the best gear purchase I have probably ever made. Came close to going with the 5:35 but glad I stuck with the 25. It is more than loud enough for any situation I will ever throw at it (through my 4x12 it rivals any 50 watt amp I have ever owned), and I really like the size/form factor better that the 35. Anyway, the quality of the tones it makes are beyond belief and I am continually blown away by it.

What speaker did you put in there?
 
Why did you make me think about this? I have been trying out amps for a bit, lol
Starting from most recent........still have
#1. Jet City JCA22H (traded a Squier Tele I didn't like for it)(Sold it to Frank)
#2. Ibanez TSA15H (Saw a deal for $175 & it's a great Fender style Head IMO)
#3. 1982 Marshall JCM 800 4210 (Converted into head,I traded my SG Special for it & it's not my thing so it's getting moved along)
#4. Jet City JCA20 1-channel Combo (It's a keeper for me. I found a guy a Craigslist looking for a smaller amp & I had the AC4 combo)
well I had a long list of 15 typed out because you all made me think about it but I will spare you from that:eek:
 
OK RobV,,,,,,,,,,,,, Back to the JCA's, Oops I might have answered my own question as I now read your sig. But maybe you can expound. Your 2 Jet Cities were the 22H and now a 20 Combo. If you were me and considering a head, would you choose a 20 or the newer 2 channel 22H and why? My buddy had a 20 and retubed it,,,,,,,,, then eventually sold it.
The 22H's came out and I considered buying this one instead of one like his.
