Is this r a p e by Gibson?

So, I'm curious. Are these pickups considered to be some uber-collectible, such that they only retain their value if they are kept in pristine condition? This would mean you likely devalue them if you actually install them in a guitar and use them. Are we entering a paradigm where guitar gear is made and bought specifically not to be used?

They are back in stock for $999, I was on an email waiting list. Went to buy a set and they cannot resolve my shipping address. Tried to use my PO Box but they don't ship to PO Boxes. Oh well.

That sucks. I just went on the site and it says "notify me when available" and I am starting to get curious enough to want to order some of these.
Even if they don't blow my socks off it looks like a good investment. And if they do blow my socks off then cool, I got something kind of unique.

That's ridiculous. Some people live where the mailing address is s PO box. Why do they care? Ignorant

There are actually a lot of businesses today that won't mail/ship to a PO Box. That whole fraud thing rearing it's ugly head. When we first moved to NE Illinois 22 years ago and before we moved to our permanent address, I used my work address for everything I ordered. Then I just got into the habit of continuing having things shipped to work since there would always be someone there to accept that package... even if I might be out of the office. No chance of porch pirates that way.

I'm from small town originally. Everyone has a PO box, period. Mail it and it gets to them.

Yeah. Not sure how USPS works. Technically, Gibson would be able to send via the Post Office. Just make sure they have a tracking number.

Part of my Parts Dept job was shipping and receiving. I do know that neither UPS or FedEx would deliver to a PO Box. They would only deliver to a street address. I also know that more recently, UPS and USPS has been working together. Shipper will ship from their place on UPS. Somewhere down the chain of delivery, the Post Office gets it handed to them and then USPS delivers it to the customer.

Yeah they need street address which is fine. But some small parcel seems obvious just to mail to box.

The Post Office does not deliver to my home and hence our mailing address is a PO Box. UPS and FedEx both deliver. My problem is our physical address is not in a lot of databases, hence many vendors "cannot verify" my address. When we moved here 4 years ago I had to call Amazon and tell them this really is a valid address. I doubt I could find a Gibson phone number to call.

Gibson shipped my set UPS
See my above post. Gibson cannot verify my address and there is no "are you really sure" box on their website for me to say yes it really is this address. I can't get past the ship to screen to checkout.

Well Don try calling Gibson

Called today. Got their customer service but they said their division does not carry the pickups. He transferred me to the “Gibson Garage”. This guy was nice but said they don’t carry the pickup either and told me to call the Customer Service line again. Long story short they could not figure out how to sell me the pickups over the phone and said the website was the only way they knew how to buy them. What a CF.
