Announcing... RiffMasters!

Let’s not forget some rap/rock fusions from the past that were really good.

Aerosmith/Run DMC - Walk this way
Anthrax - I’m the Man
Beastie Boys- Fight for your Right
Kid Rock is all about southern rock and rap/ hell, most of his library would get the extra 3 points in this challenge.
Limp Bizkit.

I’m not big on rap, but there are a ton of great songs that rock out with rap.
Whiteboy Rap, lol. (Is that not PC on here?)

Just running some "bro country" on the alexa this morning... man that stuff is full of earworm hooks and so produced. It's very popular so it's speaking to a certain element. The Walker Hayes stuff, so much banjo in FGL and all the crossovers with urban culture / music... the whole rebel / outlaw vibe - this year it's all going to probably have a major resurgence due to timing / social circumstances.

This guy is interesting ... ends way different than it starts, what genre would a fellow call this?

As a so-called country boy myself - dirt roads, half tons, bonfire beer parties all through my teens, not gonna lie this music definitely speaks to me a little bit. But I never seek it out for general listening.

Hmm, I'd go the BECK route. He's one of my favorite composers and he definitely has a combo of all those genres. He might be one of the most under rated musicians of all time. (Not really including his most recent stuff. I'll have to revisit it and see if I like it yet) Bought the MUTATIONS album when it first dropped, quickly listened to the first 30 seconds of each song and then threw it in a drawer because it was so awful. Gave it a listen about 6mo later and I LOVED IT. Can't wrap my brain around WHY I didn't like it at first. But thinking back to some bands I played in, I'd present a song, get no response from anyone, then about a year later I'd be noodling the same song and everyone would be like, "Oooow, what's THAT?"

Congrats to the to winners!

On the topic of the challenge? So I dabbled in folk which was a stretch. Now it's a mix of at least 2 elements of either metal/country/ rap. So, while it might be worth a possible 2 additional bonus points; I go ahead and go for the slacker's minimum because I'll be damned to hell before I do anything with rap even if I am falling at 6th place.

A man has to have principles lmao

I have done the same. Listened to an new purchase and not really liking it. Several months..... maybe year or so later, plug it in and get my mind blown. And like you.... why not the first play?

I have a live festival recording of beck at some folk fest just him, a guitar and harmonica... dude is a great live entertainer... never mind studio genius/savant
SERIOUSLY!!! GENIUS!!! He and WEEN are probably my two favorite multi- genre artists of all time. Oh, and, of COURSE, TOM WAITS!!!

Beastie Boys get a pass because I grew up on the MTV videos and Anthrax gets a pass because they suppressed that quickly with the The Sound of White Noise. Aerosmith just needed rehab money so I guess I can look the other way.

As for the other two? I was the kid in high school with AC/DC and Maiden T shirts fighting the JNCO jeans and backwards red flatbill cap wearing, culturally confused rich kids thinking Fred Durst was the $hit.

And Im not even getting started on that rich kid poser who tried to act like he was from the trailer park, when he lived on a horse ranch that his dad's 4 car dealerships bought. Go and shoot some beer cans in protest then get caught drinking said beer, months later in his Nashville bar.

Nah, I'll take my licks and stick to metal/country. Country is painful enough, but I'll survive lol

Trickster said It best, I think.

@clockwork is right full of that there 'tegrity, ain't he?
Price you pay for too much Dave Matthews

Just want to say here if the improvement curve of RiffMasters output continues at current rate from the beginning of round one to the end of round two, by the end of this adventure we will probably all be major recording artists, living in large homes in sunny places (when not on tour, that is).

Drag me along with you, my friends! Gonna be great when we're all appreciated for who we are!

@Sapient has been in touch with me, and basically rescued me from a truly awful movie.
He chose to reveal the Guitar Duel field of battle hidden behind door #4 for his battle with @Randy Van Malmsteen

They both have ten days to submit a minimum 1:00 guitar piece to this thread that includes a minimum of thirty solid seconds of slide guitar work upon which the community will judge. It can be a cover song, an original, done to a backing track, electric, acoustic whatever. Just make sure to include :30 of fun slidey guitar. Ten points go to the guitar man able to "Slide It In" just a little better, five points to the other.

As has been established already... if anyone else wishes to take on the "Slide It In" guitar duel challenge at any time during the five weeks of this round, you are more than welcome to for a SINGLE POINT, without any kind of vote or judgementation, I sure hope you do!
Alright, I'll shoot.
Ripping off Eugene Martone a bit
