I had a BC Rich STIII in the late '80s because we were playing a lot of contemporary covers and, it being the cheese-metal era, just about every one had whammy acrobatics that I obviously couldn't pull off with my Les Paul.

It was that cover band that made me despise playing covers so much. I quit the band, sold the guitar, and stopped playing covers for life.

Haven't seen too many out there in the wild in my neck of the woods. Most of their designs are a little too crazy for my taste, but some look absolutely killer. Maybe one day.

I always felt like I needed an engineering degree to figure out all the knobs and switches.
It's not bad.
3 way toggle pickup selector. Check.
Volume for each pickup and master tone. Check.
Then 3 mini switches for coil taps and a phase switch when using both pickups. Lastly the 5 way varitone switch. The originals added a midrange boost which, to me, seems most useful.
I rarely use the varitone and I hate out of phase so I stay fairly basic.

First time I ever saw a B.C. Rich was the early 80's if I recall correctly. Rick Derringer was playing a Mockingbird in this little club on Long Island.
I thought that was the coolest looking guitar I'd ever seen. I still love the looks of them.

First time for me was seeing Brad and Joe with them in the '70s. I thought they were the coolest things ever as a kid.
