Yup! New Ten Inch Speaker Day, ha ha!

I wanted to try an alnico spiced speaker for my Allen Amp Chihuahua… A single ended 6 watter with a 6V6, or 10 watts with a 6L6/EL34. The amp originally came with a 10” Eminence Copperhead: ferrite/ceramic magnet, 75 watt rating, 105 Hz resonance, 80 Hz - 4.5 kHz frequency range, 98.8 dB sensitivity, polymide coil former, & 4.5 lbs. Very nice and even range speaker.

But since the Chihuahua is loosely based on a Blackface Champ, I was wondering what an alnico based speaker might bring to the party. I’m looking for more chime and snappiness. Allow me to introduce the Eminence GA10-SC59 10" Signature Guitar Speaker:

The “GA” stands for amp guru wizard George Alessandro. Basic specs are: Alnico magnet, 20 watt rating, 102 Hz resonance, 100 Hz - 5.3 kHz frequency range, 97 dB sensitivity, paper coil former, & 2.9 lbs.

Anyways, this speaker accomplishes what I was hoping it would do. Especially with vintage output single coils, there’s a beautiful and delicate sweetness to the clean tones that makes me go “Ahh, Yes!”. Even the amp’s reverb seems to have more depth and/or effect on the tones.

A fuzzy dust cap too! Which makes me want to delicately rub my fingers on it… :sneaky:

Oh yeah… And it just loves fuzz pedals too! I’m sure this speaker will jive very well with just about any other type of pedal, but I haven’t had the time to test them out yet. Not sure which way this speaker is going to develop into since its only got about two hours on it, but for now, I’m in a glorious honeymoon phase over it.

IMO, when compared to other 10” alnico's like the Celestion Gold, these are very reasonably priced.
