3 way switch only working 2 ways...

Hey guys.

I've just pulled my old Epiphone G400 (Some of you may remember the EpiKrieger) out of its case for a bit of guitar therapy. And the 3 way switch is only working in the bridge and middle positions. However, in the middle position, it is still picking up the neck pickup... When I put it away last, everything was working...

Any ideas? I've had a good look at the wiring, and it appears everything is in order, so where do i go next? De solder everything and start again?

Cheers.

I’d go for the switch…clean and lube maybe…

What Don said. Depending on how long it sat, contacts in the switch could just be dirty. I get that on my Hagstrom every now and then. I just flip the switch back and forth like a madman a few times and it starts working right again.

Personally, when I start having issues like that, I start planning to just replace the switch.

Cleaning can work, of course, but with a switch it could also be that the flexible “leaves“ of the switch are starting to weaken.

This stuff is fantastic, use it as well on electrical connections on my planes. Might be a little pricier than what you use. But this gets the job done, and more, if you know what I mean.;)

Kills Rust and Corrosion • Safe on Electronics • World's Greatest Lubricant, Penetrant and Anti-Seize
CorrosionX is the most advanced and effective corrosion prevention compound, lubricant and penetrant in the world! Although it may look like a typical oil-based anti corrosion spray, CorrosionX utilizes a revolutionary technology called Polar Bonding that does far more than merely slow down the corrosion process like those so-called 'corrosion inhibitors'. Corrosion X actually kills existing rust and corrosion (keeping it from spreading) and provides long-term protection against rust and corrosion on any metal surface.
Corrosion X is the only product available to the public that meets the US Navy's tough new corrosion prevention and control performance requirement.

Corrosion Protection and Rust Preventive Coating

Due to Polar Bonding, CorrosionX causes common metals and metal alloys such as iron, steel, stainless steel, aluminum, copper, brass, bronze, etc. to chemically behave more like noble metals such as gold and platinum. In other words, as long as CorrosionX is present on metal, it can't rust or corrode! CorrosionX also has a dielectric characteristic, so it's safe on electronics and completely shuts down electrolysis between dissimilar metals.

CorrosionX is a fantastic product used it over 1/2 my life all my boats first thing when new is soak er coats of CorrosionX
engines and generator five years later they still look new. The best day of a boat owner is day of purchase and the day of sale.

I’m cheap. I just go to Home Depot or NAPA and buy a can of CRC Contact Cleaner. Half the price and near as I can tell, does the same thing.
I think DeOx is better in terms of not drying out fast and lubing the switches and pots. I have a big tin of CRC but in some cases it didn'yt last long. The DeOxit 5 really does the trick IMO

I sold it just before the price of diesel went up the real reason my wife that's in heaven enjoyed it and her sister
my new wife could care less her father has a 367' ship Hanna called my boat the shrimp.

Finished my working career behind a parts counter at a Lake Michigan Marina. Our customers were primarily sail boaters. Anywhere from upper 20ft to some in the 65ft range. We did have a few power boaters. Biggest boat was around that 65ft range. After being around tractors, combines and loader backhoes pretty mu my entire adult life…. Boats were sure interesting. Was never a call for toilet parts on a combine.
