Nice looking strat Mr. Smitty. Does it have any folk songs in it? You might have to shake it a bit.

Happy New used strat day

New (Used) American Deluxe Stratocaster Day!

So, umm...guess what I did today?

I seem to have purchased a guitar!

It's a 2004 American Deluxe Strat in HSS configuration and the S-1 switching system. I got in on Facebook Marketplace. I had to drive about three hours to pick it up, but it was worth it.

I am loving this!

Just a few pics.

Tomorrow, I'll take it outside in better lighting to get better pics. The wood grain doesn't show quite so nicely in these pics. It's pretty much the same color as a cherry SG. I like the black overlay on the headstock, too.

Awesome.

HNGD!
I'm not familiar with that nut - please elaborate.
Its a roller nut.
I installed one on a refurb I did once. Seemed to work well. The person that bought that guitar really liked the upgrade.

This is from the Fender ad.
Tired of hearing your strings pop slightly out of tune when they finally break loose in their nut grooves? Fender has the answer: their brushed-chrome LSR roller nut assembly features ball bearings, which reduce friction that can cause tuning instability (modification may be required for correct installation)

I guess I’ve really been lucky. I just really haven’t had a major problem with tuning. Every once in awhile I’ve had a string ping when it pops loose in the nut. One guitar all it took was a little graphite from a #2 pencil and all was good. (And I do have a tube of the Nut Sauce… but hesitate in mentioning knowing this group)

The MIM Strat I have, while I don’t do much with the bar, I have dive bombed it a few times just to see….. and every time it’s snapped back in tune.

That said. I really do need to sit down with each of my electrics (all four of them) with a set of nut files and do a Robert on all the nuts and saddles.

Congrats Smitty…. I like the color and the black headstock face too. Reminds me a little bit of the Brad Gillis (Night Ranger) Strat.

So, I took the new Strattykaster out for a little better of a photo op today!

Your basic full frontal pic:

These next two pics reveal the wood grain a little better. I mentioned this in my OP, but it really is a lot like a cherry SG for the color combination.

Also, you can see the real abalone inlays a little in this pic.

I like the silver stenciling on the headstock:

(BTW, the observant students in the class may notice that the saddle positioning does not look the way you'd normally expect. The guitar is properly intonated. I use a wound 3rd string, which means the G-string saddle is moved a little forward.)

HSS is the schizzle!!!

Yeah, I think putting a humbucker in the bridge was one of the best design options Fender did for the Stratocaster. I realize Fender wasn’t the first to do this. They were more or less responding to the proliferation of third-party “superstrats”; they pretty much had do so to stay relevant.

Nevertheless, I’m glad they did.

I also really like the two-point bridge and cast saddles. They are far more comfortable than the stamped steel saddles.

I've been doing a little more research on this guitar and it turns out the body is most likely mahogany on this particular model.

That's actually pretty cool. It kind of explains the wood grain. It bears somewhat of a similarity to my SG.

Beautiful !! Forgot you had this. Put the mim together similar. My Schecter Black Limba is like mahogany & the tone amazes me in that guitar. I have no clue how a shredder with hot pickups sounds more stratty than normal strats is beyond me.

One other thing I’ve noticed: the frets on this guitar are very smooth and feel a lot like stainless steel frets. But, I don’t know for sure if they are. I’ve been looking for some specs on what the 2004 American Deluxe Strats had for frets. So far, I haven’t found anything.

That is just a great looking guitar.
Some stainless depending on the iron contents may not be magnetic.

I just figured I’d give a little update on the new (used) Strattykaster.

For gigging, it gets the majority of usage. The bridge humbucker is really good for a lot of things. It’s not over-the-top gainy, but it pushes hard enough to get into ‘80s hair metal territory, if needed.

The thing that made me want an HSS guitar is working as I had hoped. That is, if we’re cruising through a set list and a song is coming up where I would normally use my Les Paul, but there isn’t really time to swap, I can keep right on playing with the Strat using the bridge pickup. Now, don’t misunderstand! I am NOT saying an HSS Strat sounds just like a Les Paul! But, I can get through the song and be in the neighborhood of sound that I want. We don’t banter a lot between songs. We generally go right from one to the other with next to no break. So, being able to minimize guitar swapping is helpful.

I’m loving just about everything with this guitar.

Oh, I had a guy I know who builds custom basses look at my guitar. Without a flinch he observed that the body was mahogany, even before I asked him. So, I think that is pretty cool. I’ve wanted a mahogany-bodied Strat for some time.

love all this writing, describing something I don't have experience with.
Well done sir. And congratulations. An excellent choice, and very worth
driving some distance to get.
