Windows 11 is out, Just finished talking with my PC Guru, asking him questions whether my PC will handle the new change. He said its time for me to upgrade. My Acer is now 13 years old, so if I want safety updates and for my PC to work efficiently, its time for me to move forward. So in a few weeks will be out to get a new Tower.

March 2024 the shakeup begins, so I am getting ready now, and will have him hook everything up and convert all my files over to the new one.

I would rather get ready now , then end up with problems grtr done as they say.

How Long Will Microsoft Support Windows 10?

Windows 10 won't go away until 2025, but the fine print says you must keep your PC up to date in other ways to avoid being cut off from support..

They also say about charging a monthly fee for support to keep all safeguards intact until 2025 when Windows 10 will be finished, There is conflicting reports on the final date . Some are saying March this year.

My laptop is 7-8 years old and was not capable of the Win11 upgrade. Met the requirements with everything except the processor. Even though my processor was on the list as upgradeable. But by 2025 it’ll be old enough for me to go ahead and get a new unit. Which most likely I will do.

I will wait for some time yet here. But I do need a processor upgrade and video so I need a whole new tower too.
I need 2x 4 TB SSD drives plus move my existing 2 TB C: drive with Win 10 on it. I can do it myself but need to make sure I have a board that allows all my drives.
Lots of band video editing etc.

For what I do my laptop is fairly well loaded. 16Gb ram and a 1Tb hd. Just not enough processor to upgrade.

I am so sick of windows. That's the only reason I have not upgraded to 11 yet.
I guess it's time to get serious about linux.

I upgraded the studio tower to Win 11 a few months ago from Win 10. It was a very seamless upgrade. It didn’t break anything. Now my office tower is Win 7, that’s a whole other story. Still have 2 laptops at Win 10.

I have a good friend that is a disciple of Linux. He tolerates Win…. But prefers Linux.

My guy has been doing this for a living for 38 years, I told him I have had a few problems with windows ,nothing that's a big deal except for small aggravating issues. I thought about switching, he said why, the other systems have their pros and cons as well. So I will stay with Windows.

Yeah. Sticking with windows. Place my friend worked used Linux (Unix) and he was the tech keeping it all working, so he knows that OS.

Looking at getting another Acer, has done me good all those years, my guru recommends Acer or Asus..
Last two computers were Dell. Tower/Desktop and my current laptop. When my wife retired from teaching darn administration thought they should have their laptop back they were supplying her. So we figured out what she needed and since we’ve had good luck with Dell. Ordered one. Long story…. But there were some issues with shipping and intimately, the shipper returned it to Dell. So we ordered an HP. It works. She likes it. I’m happy.

Other than my music computer my daily driver is a used Surface Pro 7 tablet. I usually use it sitting in my comfy chair. It has a detachable keyboard when needed. I've had everything from dual Xeon, dual Opteron servers, high end gaming machines, laptops, Macs, running Windows, Windows Server, Redhat, Mint, Debian, etc., etc. This Surface Pro running Windows 11 is all I need now for every day. My dedicated music machine is just that. It's not used for anything else, I7, 16GB, 2 x 4TB, Windows 10. It can't run 11 but it doesn't need to.
