I have been looking at EZ Drummer3 lately since it comes across my feed a bunch.

Anyone have and experience with this? Is it something that can plug into reaper?

From what I see so far on their site, it looks pretty intuitive to use. Some of the features sound interesting and promising.

Any feed back, even from previous versions would be welcomed.

I have 2 and 3. Yes, it plugs into Reaper...and it can stand alone(both 2 & 3 can).
I like the songbuilder stuff in 3.
I like some of the stock kits in 2.
2 was good for me.
3 is easier for quickly setting up a song.
If I only had the kits from 3….I’d be shopping their site for kit packs…but I’d probably be happy. Maybe I haven’t dug in deep enough yet. Please don’t get me wrong, I like the stock kits in 3, but I was used to the couple of favorites from 2. Thankfully they’re available to me still.

I have ez drummer 2 and had the same discussion with @Sapient . He has been telling me to get 3 and I should.
LiveEvil, your are metal to the core so I think you would like their metal packs.
I have become frustrated with 2 because (mostly me) I can not get the result I am looking for.

I think my approach when buying was that I was not all in. Got a deal on some stuff.
Even though I have added several packs I keep feeling short changed.
So looking back on that it might have been better off to get the pack that is more complete.
It costs more but in the long run probably more comprehensive.

I am downloading it now. If you are upgrading it will only cost you $100 right now. Apparently they have a 40% off sale going right now.

If there is a sale you should go with Superior Drummer 3. I believe all the samples are preprocessed with EZ and already sound mastered. I was always frustrated by this at mastering time since essentially half of your production is already mastered. Lol

SD3 allows you to work with dry drums while you can also remove the effects that are applied to others on the plugin mixing board. This gives you full control of how much you want the drums to be processed before mastering time.

SD3 samples are also ....superior to EZ's.

I totally agree with you on the pre produced drums in EZ D2. That frustrated me , right off the bat because I would end up with overly compressed drums even though I added no compression had an annoying pop caused by compression. If I think about it before exporting the track now, I go in to the mixer and kill the compression and reverb.

Darn you guys, am supposed to be done ordering stuff. Just clicked on sweetwater again , they had to send me an email with what i had been looking at reduced price & GAS flared up instantly,

Have Ez 2 & various add ons & this last song was the first one i could not make the drum beat i played. Seriously thinking of taking my kitchen table out of the kitchen & setting up drums over the winter. Why not its me & Cactus Blossom who BTW had gained 5 lbs easy & is the Diva of the house. She still cries maybe ooking for her kittens who burned in the fire..She caries this toy around & whimpers pretty sadly once a week

What I mean is they are too compressed or just too processed to begin with. Only sometimes do you have the option to removed the extra compression. EZs too hot-rodded. I wanted to get down to this with SD3 ...

I'll take that track and turn it into this manually ....

Processed but not "hot-rodded". Still room for mastering.

Honestly, I haven’t used it much…. Either edit or use existing loops, or use the song creator….or source midi elsewhere, or (rarely) sequence in Reaper.

RE: @Sapient reply…yes Superior is superior….especially if you want total control. Unfortunately, so is the $$
I thought Vito said the upgrade was $100. Not sure now. Yea, it's more now than when I bought (upgraded) to it. If price is a matter I might look at other software. I'm really not sure what's out there for the buck with unprocessed capabilities. Could be a lot or few ..I really don't know.

Anyone doing intense metal should have no problems with EZ - it's more mellow stuff that runs into issues.

Very picky about drums because to me its the absolute most important part of song. Its the foundation , emotion, & time keeping,

EZ2 is on every song do not do in studio & i dont manipulate them any way. Slap the wave in Reaper & have at it,The room captures are excellent & its really a matter of what kit or setting you use for the particular song. My gosh there is infinite ways to use it. Probably would of quit music all together after accident if not for EZ being the drums to use.

Manually drum on the kit then match the best i can with EZ, i do spend more time writing a song getting the drums right before will even attempt to lay a guitar down. The guitar, bass & vocals are just along for the ride if your drums are right, same in a good band.

Exactly right. It's harder to do run of the mill drum tracks. Every track doesn't need 200 bpm Double base with fills everywhere. Some or a lot of the Rock beats have odd fills thrown in (overkill). It should be offered with a straight beat and the option to spice up where needed. Sometimes less is more.
They (toontrack) do not want to know my opinion.

60 & 70' Southern Soul with the drum kits is excellent,
Americana
70's Rock
The non metal hard rock kits are way more musical then the hard stuff.
