TVvoodoo's Straplab

Here's what went down today.
Got "Mean Street" the Franky custom all dialed-in and ready2riff

Ctcyx8Am_o.jpg

Also, a new floater strap, the way I make them. Tobacco Snake

mJViDbbH_o.jpg

I'd say it was a pretty good day! Time for a barley sandwich, and get to cookin' din-din for the sweetie.
Not sure what it's gonna be, but chicken, pasta, sweet peppers, onions, garlic and a white wine sauce will be involved.
maybe some brussel sprouts too if I'm feelin' it
Fabulous! Absolutley fantastic, both of those.

Any leftovers from sup..?

@Jethro Rocker , yes, and it was delish! I did do the white wine sauce, with the pasta, and roasted herbed chicken, peppers, mushrooms and brussel sprouts. Unfortunately, as it normally goes, my wife takes the remainder with her to work the next day, and I'm left here to scrounge.
I dunno why, but since the kids are gone I'm only cooking enough for a meal and a half typically. dumb!

I've been working with a forum brother, hoping to assist him in finding a new supplier. Fun stuff! Problem is, as a testament to his FINE instruments, he's kinda choosy LOL! Anyway, he's been very helpful picking materials he wants for the perfect strap (according to his wants and needs), and I'm trying to build it.

The first one I built for him took him too long to get used to, I think. I did convince him to go past his usual 2" wide barrier to 2.5" but he's not into the padding I put inside. He's looking for a very specific look and feel. So, we try again, with a new material for the inside lining, (at my suggestion)... Plus, a pretty sexy new nose design he came up with.

1z99LrBM_o.jpg

Are we there yet? I'm sending prototype #2 for to him to weigh and measure, and we shall see - Maybe this is the one.

Neil in Edmonton is rocking with band "Pushing Ginger," and sent back a trio of fun! He's an interesting fellow, has several of my straps and I had a chance to meet him in person in Edmonton at the guitar show. He's not only a rock star on stage, but also in the game dev. work as well, as head art designer, and his current company is about to release a possible "game changer" called Nightingale - He worked with Bioware for many years before branching off. Most gamers will know of that outfit. Says he of his new brown leather Axe Warrior, in the Reverb feedback:
"A modern classic! Thanks, Brad; I wear no other strap these days ;)"

Urchin also sent in a photo of his recent Shock & Awe custom... on a sweet Heritage!

Mmm that flamey 335!

New off the custom bench, I got some heavier even moar macho woven black cowhide in but it's sitting here doing nothing while i take care of custom work. But, I did manage to sell one in a custom job...

I mean... C'MON!

So macho, it's like a viagra/cocaine/testosterone cocktail smoothie, this stuff.

LLXvVtVp_o.jpg

This dude wanted something a bit shorter than I typically make, that's why he needed a custom.

HpNXXbId_o.jpg

Axe Warrior seems to be a hit! To me, there was no doubt. It's just a super-frickin' cool guitar strap that does things no other strap does

fhkRWrFQ_o.jpg

First off, I want everyone to take ten thoughtful seconds to direct some much needed guitar-bro HEALTH MOJO towards a couple
of TTR members who could use a bit of help right now. No need to mention names, it's not important. Just send it out there to the
universe, it has an uncanny way of finding where it needs to go.

Today new in the shoppe... I am proud an pleased to reveal "Snake Pit" in the No Prisoners realm

Q5vA1cjA_o.jpg

No Prisoners, because in a former life the body of this was a 3" wide black leather suede ladies fashion belt. All I did was, pad it out, put some mustardy snake pattern inside the existing nickel grommets (all eleven of 'em), add sturdy black leather nose and tail, lay in a grippy lining and then sew it all together securely (double-stitched)! Is there such a thing as badass subtle? This might be it.

Funny story, around 13 years at this, I have NEVER had a potential customer ask me for photos of a couple of straps on a guitar player to help him choose. Thankfully he didn't specify any kind of skill level required, so I figured just snapping self-timer photos would be do 'er. Actually it was kind of fun, but I don't think I want be found to do this much, if ever, again.

EDkMi9im_o.jpg

Since these are still photos, I'll describe: This wicked bend action, so soulful and out of tune, I almost made my ownself cry!
Remember back in the 80's when the ultimate put-down was to call someone a total poser - that's me!
Then below, I laid into a wicked bass solo funk lick that, if he ever heard it, would make even Bootsy jelly and want to pinch it.

DD6sMv0N_o.jpg

The lens is so much kinder to others LOL! BTW, the dude did purchase "Tobacco Snake"
so at least my extra effort was rewarded. Have a great weekend my fellow CGF citizens

happy-friday-piglet-car-ride.gif

Don't forget the mojo. It's the least we can do

^ Great pics @ninjaking67 I kind of wish I had a brighter red, but I kinda also glad I didn't - It almost looks camouflaged.

I think he might go up a size with the eye-hooks and I approve of that. I picked what I thought felt appropriate in the store because hole size.
but in a case such as this, I don't think hole size is anything to worry about in this case. It's 100% function over form.

New to the Wild Things line in the Reverb store, probably tomorrow, a set of new Big Birds - in dark royal blue.
Great texture with all those black nipply-nubs dotted all over it in a random sort of way.
This is a nice quality vinyl, so you don't have to be a gazillionaire, or unusually cruel to animals to own.

Elegant and interesting, kind of off the beaten path. I don't often make blue straps.

v6IMIoAc_o.jpg

Heavy duty black cowhide nose and ladder/tail, luxe padding, 3" wide. 43-57"

NKcmjYKA_o.jpg

Al is an old road dog, currently playing Keef in a Stones tribute. Nearly age accurately too LOL! So, take what he says right to the bank,
cash it, then blow it all on bad behavior, if you wish. Not that any of you TTR guys would know much about, I'm sure :rolf:

Happy Hallowe'en,

New in the Well-Hung Reverb Shop is "Desert Python" - what a gorgeous pattern and colour combo in the always intimidating snake embossed cowhide. Just a little bit of glitter to those scales, to help it be a little bit Hollywood

FDoFVAEX_o.jpg

Matty is a dedicated Well-Hungarian, sended me over this pic the other day.

fvh20Nhe_o.jpg

I'm not much on the highest of the high end luthiery, truth to tell, it's a bit out of my personal zone... but I'm told this looker is by Patrick James Eggle, billed as possibly England's finest Luthier - this finish called Aussie Shiraz. What a sight to behold! It's wearing a "Brimstone" which I need to get at making a bunch more soon.

Managed to complete 3 of these today... and almost a fourth... Phew! No lay-back Friday here in the StrapLab!

EUMO8oZl_o.jpg

Basket Case II in Saddle tan. The kind of strap that sports macho texture, (genuine hand-woven cowhide), that will go favourably with so many guitars. Also ultra-padded, but sits on your shoulder properly, not all ploofy, staying nicely flexy. Goes 43"-58" - about eight inches longer than most. This is a good thing. Just a great all-rounder, with classic looks.

DjJNC6eE_o.jpg

Good oil-tanned reinforced leather on the nose and tail sections, sewn with heavy duty thread, and a slightly grippy corduroy lining. Long, strong ready to rock!

SyMCAjxo_o.jpg

Happy Friday! Is it Duff time yet?

iu

One warning I don't care to have to throw out there, but now especially more than ever...

iu

I see this just looking out my window!

With that, I've had GOT in my mind lately, and one leather theme strap I've now made a few of.
The first one was only going to be a custom one-off, but over the past five years now, I've made three.
They do seem to sell quick, but are rather a pain to make. I think maybe Jethro is the owner of the first one.

I call it the "House Stark" - oiled pigskin, with the armor platelets and plenty of primitive flatted rivets in antique brass.
Great texture, ready to help you go all medieval on your next audience.

NW78GbFz_o.jpg

Then this Purple Beast - Hand-dyed Hootenanny Hero strap in Purple Python, now new in the store.

0SAErsTz_o.jpg

Crazy colour, in a strong faux leather, double-stitched and dyed purple. Black interior. Check this: It's a 3" wide hootenanny strap that is also padded. Rare to find, never mind in a leather look, not cheap poly. Heavy duty ABS hardware, no rivets or metal loops, heavy leather ends, and rolled over edges won't grind your neck into hamburger.

Oh, and this one adjusts as extreme as SEVENTY-THREE INCHES LONG. Why would you ever need to be this Well-Hung? Well, guitarists with the coolest stage moves, and the longest gorilla arms say they need stuff like this. Plus, if you live in an apartment and there's ever happens to be fire? This one could save your life as you rappel down the building!

bQJGxhLD_o.jpg

No mere guitar strap, it's a total revelatory experience in comfort and badass cool!

Recently met a fellow who's obviously clinically insane, but still somehow roaming free. And, he's suddenly a new TTR brother!
A musician and guitar builder, he got in touch with me for an out-of-this-world project he's got on the bench.

I'm sure @Ku² will provide us many more pics of whatever the Hell this is, and what it's full capabilities for mass destruction might be.

6P2hymFU_o.jpg

NOT your average dentistry or litigator instrument! Shades of Blackie Lawless! Ku simply wanted something in good heavy leather with the honeycomb theme, but only half-finished. He also plans to further customize what I send him. He was very specific about the pattern.

jbM66nNL_o.jpg

gzERIS2k_o.jpg

Funny thing, they don't really make a nice honeycomb stamp, but I cut off an allen wrench, you know,
like the ones left over from furniture assembly. We all have a dozen of 'em, kicking around amirite?

3KBDAf45_o.jpg

High anticipation wondering where he's gonna take it. He says he's gonna add a bunch of mech gear on top, to leave some room for it, and don't sew a lining in yet. Tomorrow I gotta try to work up a dye that'll get us it in the neighborhood of that tractor yella on the guitar, (at least I think that's probably a guitar? Or something?).

"Swamp Cowboy" Now in the Reverb shop. Link in my signature!

URwYJWgB_o.jpg

3" wide, goes up to 60" long, ultra padded, big nickel conchos, gold rivets. Refuses to go unnoticed.

vFCs6m7I_o.jpg

Moved @Ku² forward a bit... I think a triple dye is enough, for a nearby yella, and got the edges dyed and burnished.
he sent me another photo this afternoon, but Imma let him figure out how to post a thread, afore I steal his thunder

wjZWpBmq_o.jpg

At this time if you don't know already, we shall soon embark upon a fresh new TTR forum adventure called RiffMasters.
You may recall about a year ago, I ran something called Game of Toanz, it was kind of low key :rolf:

HsGGkkav_o.jpg

Think of it as musical Jeopardy, but it's not a quiz. A series of 10 musical challenges, to be voted on by a community. Plenty of time for submissions, relaxed, designed to stretch you creatively and built for guitarists of a maybe just a bit better than beginner to skilled.
Scoring will be weighted to equalize skills and talent. Rock music focus. One-on-one fun duels (absolutely no shred level skills required),
you will need a looper at minimum, DAW skills better.

Required is a great sense of humour, maybe some swagger and braggadocio. 1:00 clips minimum. audio or video
There will also be side games where you can watch/ enjoy "Guitar Duels" between contestants, might even get challenged yourself!

You can also drop in/out, casually if you wish, and still accumulate points. There will be no penalties for missing the main challenge rounds.
First player to 100 points, climbing from "Busker" all the way up to "SuperStar" status will be declared winner.

liugKknX_o.jpg

PM me if you interested. Now pre-registering, we start in about a week. You can also drop in/out, but if you don't register in the next few days, you won't be able to get in on the "Guitar Duels" which is about half the fun, and challenge.

OR go RIGHT HERE and reply to the thread with "I Want Innnnn!!!"

New in the shop today "Tobacco Python" which is a 3" wide version of a strap I made a floating pad out of a maybe a month ago

wTVxeBvV_o.jpg

As per usual many more pix over in the reverb store listing. 3' wide, real leather, comfiest ever, heavy duty ends yadda-yadda.

Eric got his floatin' pad strap just the other day made from the same stuff, and like the finest of the fine Well-Hung Tribe,
proceeded to shoot me back a photo and some nice words of encouragement.

r9iSWET9_o.jpg

And before anyone asks, "Packaging Extras" does not include a gorgeous flamey PRS LOL!

As you may know, RiffMasters is now underway, but anyone on TTR is 100% welcome to take part. We all start out as a lowly busker though.
Still about four and a half weeks to tackle the first challenge. FIND IT OVER HERE

New in the store a wacky coloured big bird in army green

sYegC6TK_o.jpg

Special version of "Axe Warrior" for a special customer, and guitar. Honest? not sure I how I feel about it, but kinda tingly.

622ouGpw_o.jpg

New in the shop today, will be a set of new Excess of X's. One of the best straps I make, hands down. Many make this strap, but I don't know if anyone actually pads and lines the inside so you don't have all that lacing rubbin' you raw. Plus mine are a ladder back in quality leather, front, back and middle too!. 3 inch wide, approx 46"-60" LONG!

That's way longer than those revered guitar gods needed, but maybe you want to rock it up a bit, hey?
If anyone could have ONE of my straps, I'd like to be known for this one.

kdZcRwrN_o.jpg

It's gonna look at home on most any guitar, and exude all kinds of classic Hendrix Gilmour vibes, but looks really proper
on a black-on-black strat, you know the one. Very detailed, robust and comfortable strap, direct from my workbench, to your rig!

VqeM4gLg_o.jpg

Working on something new today. Well actually, started on this late yesterday. Dyed some black and cream snake-embossed leather
here in, for a new look inamber and purple. Then I faded in some sweet bursty edges. Came out pretty nice!
Sometimes you just never know

EpGVSUK1_o.jpg

Finish coated it twice, and by the time the afternoon rolled around, I was able to use it to build the first three
"Dark Shadows" series straps. Now in the Reverb store!

og929bQS_o.jpg

hqnacuXe_o.jpg

All my basic recipe... 3" wide, rolled edges, more comfort than you deserve with pillowy padding that compresses exactly right, heavy duty leather, and they edge up to 60" long maximum adjustment. The kind of length you need for them sexy guitar man moves!

Careful though, do some stretches first you old codgers

Visually, these straps are super-spicy. Nice to have a little extra heat around when you need it!
