Top 10 Rush songs According to Singersroom! I shake my head in disgust.

No Rush list could ever be complete with the inclusion of Rivendell either.
Sorry, but it is my opinion. I simply love it.

Also, it has been said, there would be no RUSH without Neil. However, I also like to say, THANKFULLY Alex and Geddy were school friends and got it all started.

Mike, I am sure you and gball, bdon, ibmor etc who are Rush fans will not shame me if I also include a few extra of my favorite Rush Tunes not mentioned by anyone yet.

See how that word BEST, which was also paired with 10 by the author, is a fallible proposition.

For me, it all began with 2112, but when I got the 3 album collection called Archives, I was officially 4 Albums into my life-long addiction.

From 2112, Discovery/Presentation is So overlooked but I love it. Go Neil for writng it. Alex and Ged for bringing the Strange New Wonder to life. I cannot even describe the WTF eye opening experience I had when I put 2112 on for the first time without ever hearing even 1 Rush song before the day I bought that album. I played 2112 a good time or 3 to absorb all I had injected into my soul like a junkie does to smack.

Soon after came one of the best live albums ever. ALL The World's a Stage, Hemispheres, A Farewell to Kings, and as soon as they came out, Permanent Waves and Moving Pictures.

Speaking of Permanent Waves

I think I like more songs off that album than the more popular hits off Pictures.

Different Strings flat out hooks me, the Bass, the eerieness, etc. Natural Science no explanation needed. This song is as much a masterpiece to me as Cygnus etc.

As I write this, I think the term BEST should not be used.
So many of Rush's song are simply GREAT. No need to be the greatest for us to enjoy all that they offer.

Like Mitch said, the older Pre 1980-1984 ish time frame had the signature variety and exceptional musicianship. Geddy, Neil and Alex were kown for.

I mean just listen to this one that would never get airplay in any era of Popular Radio Station/TV productions. Yet it is one of my favorites.

Madrigal.
I agree about Permanent Waves, great songs.
There are so many songs and recordings.
They are one of several top bands in rock history. I just got pissed about the list. I don't understand how they get some guy to write a article that is so unfamiliar with their catalouge. He pretends to know about something and write a article to get recognition.

ibmorjamn, I understood your position. In encounters such as you had, I am accustomed to putting articles like that into perspective and dismissing them as fluff.

Stopped paying much attention to top 10 lists long ago. Too subjective. Totally dependent on who’s writing it. Like…. Best all time guitar players and Jimi doesn’t even make the list. Or MT Top 10 cars of 2023. Oddly. They tend to all come from those manufactures that also coincidently advertise on MT. Etc.

Jimi died about the same time my appreciation of all things rock music was ramping up. So while I knew he was considered really good…. I didn’t really “get” it at the time. Until o day I heard an interviewer ask Chet Atkins who the best all time guitar player is/was? With hesitation…. Jimi Hendrix. Now I knew how good Chet was, so that really made an impact.

I am likely younger than you by reading this message.

In my own young conclusion somewhere between 73-74 when I first was hearing popular music, I actually thought Roy Clark was about as good a player as one could be. By around '78, I found the Nuge, Jimmy, Blackmore, iommi, Jimi, Lifeson, Dharma, Farner, EVH, Townshend, Gilmour, Krieger, Tipton and Downing, Angus and Malcolm, etc.

Teenage Nirvana through bombast was upon me.

I was 9 in '73 when Smoke on the Water became the defining memory of the time and place I heard it. Before and after this I knew of Elvis, the Nelsons, Grand Funk, Elton, Beatles, Guess Who, BTO, and numerous pop songs/groups. Heck, I even had the Jackson 5 Greatest hits.

I dug Charlie Daniels, Brownsville Station, Motown, Tom Jones, Kingston Trio and just about anything musical. I guess this is why I don't need the Best to enjoy the product. Just the fact that music like Rush was possible is essentially as close to a miracle of art such as Michaelangelo, Van Gogh are.
