TVvoodoo's Straplab

Four semi-prophecy straps completed... these are budget friendly as the main body isn't leather, but a cool upholstery cloth I picked up years ago for grillcloth on an amp rehouse project.

"I Am The Lacquer" was inspired by a personal hero of mine, Mr. Lahey. You can find out more on the story at the Well-Hung store on Reverb.

I made these as a budget friendly version of Prophecy theme strap, like @4406Pack mentioned very good choice for a Black Beauty, or anythign with a bit of gold. Or a white guitar, or shorline guitar too! 3" wide, ultra padded, a bit sporty and gothic all at the same time.

Bustin' my buttons today a little bit. Got my 900th Reverb Review, (I have made well over 1,200 transactions since 2013, but not everyone chooses to feedback, I guess). Kind of like watching your odometer turn, I've been waiting for this for a a couple weeks now!

Celebration time!

VlQj9jyV_o.jpg

Over the years I have received two 4 star reviews, the rest five, hence my sullied record from perfection. I look forward to you reading this offering your thoughts someday!

Already sold three sets of three pro-pins! two of them to a guy who seems to be converting his whole guitar stable - I am clearing out the rest of the V.2 version, I have about seven or eight sets remaining. If you purchase a strap from me over the next week or so, tell me you are a TTR brother, and I will include a FREE set of V.2 pro-pins that'll change your guitaring life for the better.

Why didn't I use up that cool fabric for grillcloth? Turned out It was Mufflecloth... super sexy material, but audibly not transparent, and tonewise I need all the help I can get!

Well-Hung Pro-Pins now available on reverb in groups of 3 pairs. Black, Nickel, Gold, or get a pair of each in my combo pak!

Very nice look, I will be on it. Lol

Fun times in the StrapLab today!

So, my friend Tommy bought himself a guitar! One of them nice ones! Not one of them with points, or trashy dirt pickups LOL

nxmiZ2Za_o.jpg

Tommy knows all about the goodness being a Well-Hung brings to gear life, so asked me to think on this in a Prophecy theme. This was maybe a couple months ago. Then, he and i decided on a particular ribbon, so I purchased it. He wanted a honey coloured leather base, I wanted to pick up off the sonic blue, so added some very faded denim behind the ribbon. Like both Tommy and I, this thing is going to have many layers!

I love that minty guard SO MUCH. He talked about a white cross, but I steered him towards a minty one.
You probably saw my practice run last week. Here it is before dye.

4Gawwhu5_o.jpg

Dyed the cross, I think I come pretty close to minty. Tom is worried about the thread not being right to sew the cross on with. Reaching perhaps my highest OCD detail level yet in strapcraft, now dying white thread with the same dye to get the same colour, actually dunked it twice, I want it slightly darker.

Also, have a tooling project going on... too! "Cherry Blossom" for Derek on Instagram.
First we figure out a design

e9CUGfzA_o.jpg

Size it right, get it on the leather base I've already cut and cased overnight

Carve that sucker in real good with the twisty-turny sharp blade thing! Didn't even cut myself one time! I hate it
when I get blood on a project. More tomorrow

TOTALLY geeked out on this one today. As mentioned, a custom collab with a Well-Hung warrior for his recent sonic blue custom shop acquisition

sonic blue custom.jpg

Class Act form factor, with a guitar-protected back buckle on the back end. Real easy to adjust fast between 45-58". Super faded denim, fancy embroidered ribbon, a white leather gothic cross dyed special to hit groovy mint green. A little blue stone concho in the middle , some leather spots in a couple sizes. In-between several annoying power outtages today and trying to get the RV shipshape for a few days R&R, managed to bring it home.

One of the most challenging straps I've ever made. Pushed my machine right to it's limit. Me too!

Driving the beast up to the campground tonight, try to stake a decent claim on a spot near the lake for the weekend. Coming home after we get sort of set up though, wife still has to work tomorrow, and so do I. Gonna get after that Cherry Blossom special big time!

Hope no smoke for you there. We are getting it today.

@Jethro Rocker very smoky earlier today but a powerful wind came up a couple of hours ago blew all towards you! . Nice whitecaps on the lake. We got our second favourite spot. Gonna be some fun kayak action if it can hold up ... don't even have to go thirty feet out... it's quite a workout just keeping the nose up into those one and a half footers battering you. 20 minutes of that = nappytime 4papa!

I am in, I am about to achieve omni galactic oneness. I'll be more one than anyone. Lol

@ibmorjamn just jamming your new Well-Hung goods into a cute little box right now, pick of the "I am the Lacquer" litter, as promised.
Thank you SO much!

It's a small celebration for me when any TTR member becomes newly Well-Hung, because typically sensible guitarists find my straps are so MINDBLOWINGLY OTHERWORLD ALTERNATE UNIVERSE MULTIPLE CLIMAX POWERBALL WIN awesome, they eventually will want another.

Am I overselling it a little bit? :pound-hand:

Seriously, in about ten days, I do look forward to your comments. Also sending along a special collector's item pick i had made about ten years ago. Found a small cache of them opening a guitar case yesterday. Packed up the 'ol washbum acoustic to take camping this weekend. Threw in some tools and most importantly, a new set of strangs. A little guitar maintenence on my R&R time, when the internet isn't beckoning!

OK Back from camping... We left a day early, it was going to do nothing but pour rain. I think my wife does NOT relish being stuck in an RV with me for a whole day. But we did have some nice weather. First off, I know I posted it elsewhere here, but even when I'm there in the midst of nature, I can't help but see guitars! Do you see it too?

Now back in the StrapLab, Cherry Blossom needs some attention. Last we left it, it was pretty much carved out and beveled proper

oPrKknX9_o.jpg

Today, I set to paintin'. BTW, I completed the Grapes of Wrath (first time through) on my lake trip, so that's likely why I'm now writin' like an okie. Fact is, been doin' it purty much all my days. A few years back when I owned a newspaper, used to get all kinds of heat from the local teachers in the schoolhouse. That Steinbeck feller can sure pen a tale and conjure a metaphor. Sunset clouds floating like a "bloody rag in the sky." Man!

First coat of white on them blossoms

962FByTs_o.jpg

Second coat blossoms, plus I done the branches and leaves in a couple mixes of green

jTvTJdYM_o.jpg

After lightly near dry-brushing, a fresh blush of pink on them petals, I splooged a bit of magenta in the middle each of them fl'rs

XqgArhtw_o.jpg

Next, detailed in some bright yellow stamens, then overpainted the flowers again with very dilute semi opaque white to help blend everything together. I should note here, I'm not really any kind of painter, I just do what feels right to me, usually turns out fairly ok.

Here it is with a coat of dye resist that needs to dry overnight.

How about a guitar shot! Of course nobody is going to say no to that are ya? Al Salecker, who plays Keef in The Beggars Banquet stones tribute, has a tele, (of course he would)! Effectively this one is playing Micawber I guess, 'cept it seems to have too many strangs on 'er.

It's wearing my Well of Souls strap from the Genocide series. Cheers, mates!

Always seems I'm a bit late on the trend for corporate pride month festivities, but better late than never LOL!

RKExTyjr_o.jpg

I got this cool vinyl fabric (fake leather) in last week but it's not exactly what I thought it was, so I've been racking my brain on how to use it.
Anyone else buy something online then when it arrives, wonder why? No? Ok then, ...guess I'm the only one.

Actually, I know I can use this, it's quite beautiful, just that I was hoping the pattern would be just a bit larger. I can't cut it the way I normally cut leather and such at 4" wide strips to make 3" wide straps 'cause the pattern doesn't work that way, there'd lots of waste. The reason I picked it up is to my eye is this diamond pattern is not a bad fooler for rattlesnake, though it's actually what I would call mini-python. It's pretty stark black and white as it came, but if I dye it right, it ends up looking pretty cool. I made this one today... in between clearcoats on the Cherry Blossom piece (though this is 3" wide). I'm trying to find a way to make rattler straps, in a cost-effective way - they seem to be in demand, never last
long in the store.

Here I was going for a diluted TV mustardy yellow rattler look, and if you watch it's going to show up in the Well-Hung Reverb store real soon as a prototype, a rare 3" wide padded hootenanny sliding buckle strap! But I won't be making them in 3" wide anymore.

NvFuf92k_o.jpg

The reason is, if use this material for 3" wide straps, I end up ruining the next row of diamonds, making for too much wasted material and wasted $$$! Plus this pattern looks a little sparse on top of a 3" it's more suited to sit on slightly skinnier one. I'm now thinking I'm going to offer up a new "hootenanny" style strap (sliding tri-buckle), in 2.5" wide, say make it in "gem" series, a various bunch of colours I don't normally offer. It's very soft and leather-like, takes dye beautifully, and not plasticky gloss at all. I just can't pad out a 2.5" wide strap as well as I like to, to put my name on it. But I know there's a number of stubborn masochist dudes out there who feel 3" is too wide and more comfy than they deserve.

Here's a couple final pics of Cherry Blossom, after four coats of clear, getting holes as soon as I know what size, going out tomorrow.
This baby is 9 oz vegtan, fully 3" wide heavy hand-tooled leather!

Colin M has nice things to say about my straps on 3" width it relates to weight relief on a guitar. "I've done a lot of strap searching for something that doesn't hurt my torn rotator cuff injury. Comfort straps don't work BC they're too bouncy and a lot of other stuff is just goofy-looking or ugly. I did find this dude,at: Well-Hung Guitar Accessories; Reverb. This dudes' straps have been a lifesaver for me. They're wide, very well padded, soft, and just done a great job relieving shoulder pain. What's more is they are of great quality, look fantastic, and the good sir behind the computer screen will even do custom work.... I'm not only a fan, I'm also a customer a few times over!" ~Colin M.
Colin seems to be primarily a bass player but he recently sent me this pic of his NGD on instagram...
A luxe-looking goldtop double-bound telecaster? Oh My!!!! Wearing a strap I called "Seeing Spots"

Happy Thursday, weekend is coming!

Are you an Inny or an Outey? Seems many guitarists have a ladder strap OCD thing going on.

Some of you NEED to have the tail strap go through the last rung of the ladder from the topside down. While others, (the very weird lonely deviant outcast black sheep people if you ask me), seem to prefer it when the tail strap comes out from the underside to the top.

Inny:

r91Twxrd_o.jpg

Outey (probably mostly them kinds of fellas don't like telecasters and such)

ZhrhpocO_o.jpg

This is why sometimes on a Well-Hung guitar strap built by my very own two hands, you'll find TWO pass through loops at the very end, proximal to each other. WHAT???T!!!??? Call me crazy, but I don't even charge extra for this amazing innovation! The reason? This way, I believe both camps can be satisfied!

R.524821eb6a5944a3551da92c7c520217

Honest? I only do it when my spacing is messed up with the punch, but it actually works out real well.
Admittedly, I don't use a template when I punch these loops, so when it happens, it happens! But, if
you desire a custom strap made special with this game-changing feature, more than happy to comply!

ljw3fJM8_o.jpg

Either way, I like to see guitarists thread the tail strap through every hole on the way down, NOT just randomly select a rung or two, as per your individual choice or emotional state at the time. I see it often, drives me KOO-KOO! Threading proper is more secure and looks 200% better to my eye when the tail strap goes through all the loops. More work to adjust, but worth it, unless you find yourself switching your strap between different guitars often and adjusting the length each time.

Ok, guitar time... another from Al Salecker, Stones Tribute guy, this time a top-wrapped TVY Jr, on a floatin' pad strap.
It's only rock 'n roll, but I like it, like it, yes I do.

pbCTIuXY_o.jpg

Have a great weekend! Got some steaks sittin' out seasoned, time to fire up the grill and crack a barley pop or two.
Any of you TTR rockstars got a good pic of your gats Well-Hung? Post 'em up here!

Do you remember the pre-Aqua Net eighties like I do? Priest and Maiden and Sabbath? Man, those were the days! When I found this ladies jacket straight from 1983, about a dozen years ago I used up most of it, but stashed a length of the zebra-ish suede finish, for future considerations. Today I finally used it up, in an EXTRA LONG Class Act design.

D9QrHcsW_o.jpg

This wicked bitchin' pattern transitions to regular black leather in the middle/high back, then ends in my Class Act, buckle pass through design. Very convenient to adjust, super secure. Sexy too. My premium comfort design actually. Beware, this is for a BIG GUY, or LOW HANGER!

cYQ5zXkJ_o.jpg

The length of this strap STARTS where most other brands end, at 49", and ends at approx 63".
This strap could be your "eleven" setting.... one that puts you over the edge, for that extra push!

@Sp8ctre I have made up to #99 I think, but have not shown them all yet
.. I filter them into the store a couple at a time... it is about time I tossed a new one in.

Maybe tomorrow!
