Why is switching Reverb such a big deal??

Why do so many amps have a footswitchable reverb?? Most amp reverb is relatively lame and it seems unlikely too many people play dry then add amp reverb for solos? Spring reverb does not sound like a big hall it sounds kinda lame-o.
Some of it might just be cause some amps only have channel and reverb to switch, no other functions so might as well.

JVM and TSL have it on footswitch, the little Mesa 35 has a more useful channel and solo switch. If everything is switched, sure put it on. The Mesa TC100 has a 6 button switch.
The BluGuitar pedal amp has 3 switches. There are 4 channels, 3 dirty, one clean, reverb, gate, boost...
So what are the 3 buttons? Clean/dirty (whatever dirty channel you have selected) boost, and, you guessed it , reverb!! Jeez maybe one switch could be a 3 way for which dirty channel you want? Nope.
Reverb.
Thankfully my Traynor has channel and boost. If there is room for a button or knob, add a solo gain and/or volume boost and make it switchable!

Reverb.... I suspect most use outboard reverb anyways.
Thoughts?

Well I love springs reverb from my TSL100 and from JCM900 DR. I don't like Fender's reverb, to much reverb. I like the reverb effect to give space and depth. Always moderate settings. I love that it is switchable. I like modulated effects delay and chorus but as reverb effects with moderats/low settings. Just my opinion.

When I play thru my YGM3, the onboard spring reverb is set to 3. I just like how it sounds. Don’t have a reverb pedal. Do have delay and chorus. I generally keep the delay kicked in, nothing massive…. And will use some chorus depending on mood. Again. I don’t get crazy with anyone of those three effects. Just enough to add some color.

I use some amp reverb too.
But switching it from dry to reverb on guitar enough to justify the footswitch?
That was my main point. If I have it on it generally stays on. I may go to more reverb with a pedal and some slapback for some solos but that isn't the same as dry to wet reverb.
Some amps have a reverb switch when they also have more useful features they could switch.

You switch from dry to reverb? You use it more like an effect then?

Yeah….. I know you’re familiar with the YGM3. It’s pretty old school. Reverb and tremolo. Both can be turned on/off with a foot switch. Beyond that. There are no other features to switch.

I usually use a TSL100 and JVM410 HJS with the band. Sometimes the LM6100. Always Guitar /wah pedal/ amp. Then delay/chorus/reverb on the FX loop. Always I use multieffects devices. I just use effects on the leads(solo) parts( reverb/delay/chorus). Always low/moderate settings on the effects. When I use the TSL I push reverb on and FX loop on switches with just one foot. Therefore with the TSL I don't have reverb in fxloop, I use the reverb of the amp. On the JVM or LM usually I use same multieffects preset wich It has reverb because JVM410HJS and LM6100 don't have reverb. You can see my pedals chain it's simple. I tryed with the Astoria Custom but It's just 30W amp. The drumer mate of the band it's loud as hell. We need 100w guitar amps, lol. Bass mate of the band use a 500W bass amp. We are loud even in the practice. I always use ear proteccion, quality ear plugs.

Do you switch reverb on off much?

Ah OK so you do use reverb switching on the TSL.
It just seems like it is the first feature they footswitch when there are in some cases other more useful ones to switch. Loop switching would be better IMO.

You are right. But there is a thing on springs reverbs that are much better than digital ones. I love reverb from a TSL's. I had a TSL60 that was great too but overall volumen balances from paralel FX loop was so difficult to deal. I sold It.

Do you switch reverb on off much?

I do not. I have a switch…… somewhere?? Never used it. Pretty much. If I’m plugged into the Traynor the reverb is set at 3. Any less, might as well not use it. Any more, to my ear it’s too much. And I never use the tremolo. My kid does when he’s messing around. Sounds cool when he’s using it. Sounds like poop when I do.

I don't like spring reverb, so never really use it unless I have not taken my pedalboard for some reason. I have an analog delay and digital reverb in the loop and can get all the subtle ambience I need without the squishness and loose low end of a spring tank.
I agree.
I also have no need to switch from bone dry to the most excellent built in reverb.

I use some amp reverb too.

Yes. Exactly.

Mrshall DSL40C original is a good example.
2 switches.
They could have picked Clh1 /2 and OD1/OD2. Or the modes clean/crunch and OD1/OD2.
Nope.
Ch1 /Ch2 and, you are correct, reverb! Yay! Such a treat to switch that subtle DSL reverb On or off instead of useful features the amp has.
It does boggle my mind a bit.
