Good Recording Headphones:

Just looking for a decent set for practice here at home. Not trying to impress anyone with the name brand or pricetag...

Totally get it. Me too. I want a very neutral set of headphones. Very often, retail headphones, like what you'd find at Walmart, have a real bass emphasis. I don't want that.

For practice? Not trying to impress? Okay then…here:

Simple, decent sound, good isolation, standard audio cabling(standard size TRS headphone audio cable, on both ends, is easy to find if you ever need a replacement).
I have an older version. For me, they’ve been comfortable, and pretty robust.

That's awesome!!!!!!

Thanks!!!

There's no boosted frequencies in them and they're very comfortable for long periods.

Precisely why i avoided Vintage 30's Greenbacks, Creambacks and most other Celestion speakers - the artificially boosted frequency response.

And you are correct that those are dyellar headphones!!!!

On a side note, I got these recently. They're supposed to mimic the sound of being able to place you're amp anywhere in the room so that if you move, the direction of sound moves relative to you but it just sounds like a panning effect to me and I end up sitting trying to keep my head still to keep the sound equal in each ear

This is what they call it......

  • Advanced BOSS spatial technology and integrated gyro sensor deliver natural “amp-in-room” tone with 3D ambience and dynamic sound localization
I call it annoying

So, just any 1/4 instrument cable can be subbed for the stock cable???

Interesting!!!!

Not exactly. It's got to be a TRS (Tip-Ring-Sleeve) cable. Most standard 1/4" instrument cables, like your typical guitar cables, are TS (Tip-Sleeve) cables.

Many people will refer to a TRS cable as a "stereo" cable, though this is technically incorrect. It is true that a TRS cable is used to carry stereo audio, as would be the case with these headphones. But, TRS cables are also used to carry balanced mono audio.
