NGD - tele

Almost happy new guitar day!

So, this turned out to be right...

After this thread was put up, the wife came home crying because she'd been scammed out of $5000... Really quite annoying, but poop happens. We're pulling the purse strings in, so I cancelled the purchase - just can't justify it at the moment. I'll have to reduce the wine purchases too although I do have a few in the wine fridge that make the Calon Segur look reasonably priced, so I'm alright for a while.

I don't think teles and me will every make it.

If there's one thing I truly hate and despise in this world, it's a scammer. Cockroaches that crawl out of the filthiest holes in society who, if they spent a 1/4 of their efforts actually contributing to society as much as they do running scams, could probably solve every global crisis in a matter of minutes. Instead, they choose to be degenerates that trick and steal off of decent people

Haven’t been personally burned by scammers. Did get bit at work several years ago. Result of that one has had me pretty skeptical and wary….. non trusting. One way I avoid scammers is I have my phone set so if an incoming call is not someone in my contact list…. Goes straight to voice mail. Doesn’t even ring. If a legit call, they’ll leave voice mail. I almost never have voice mail from a “missed” call.

I do the same. Not in my contacts, the phone does not ring and straight to VM.

Here's what's interesting about this....

When we added up all the foreign parts on a Corona California Stratocaster, directly from the part numbers as they appear on the bills of lading, a Corona California Stratocaster had approximately 70% foreign components in its construction.

Interestingly, the 40th Anniversary Squire Stratocaster, Made by Cort in Indonesia, has 35% USA produced parts, making it have a greater percentage of USA made parts than a Corona California Stratocaster - costing 440% more - than the $499.00 40th Anniversary Squire.

See what i mean when i call Fender Marketing a Bus Station Shell Game????

According to the Federal Trade Commission, “Made in USA” means that “all or virtually all” the product has been made in America. That is, all significant parts, processing and labor that go into the product must be of U.S. origin.

Why Fender Guitars are marked 'Corona California' or Made In Corona California.'

California Business and Professions Code § 17533.7, which is part of California's False Advertising Law that generally prohibits false and misleading advertising statements, has even stricter rules for making "Made in America" claims in California:

"It is unlawful for any person, firm, corporation or association to sell or offer for sale in this state any merchandise on which merchandise or on its container there appears the words "Made in the USA," "Made in America," "USA," or similar words when the merchandise or any article, unit or part thereof, has been entirely or substantially made, manufactured or produced outside of the United States...."

Now, here is the hard to find published percentage required for a Made In USA Product Claim:

California MIA law
SECTION 1.
Section 17533.7 of the Business and Professions Code is amended to read:

17533.7.
(a) It is unlawful for any person, firm, corporation, or association to sell or offer for sale in this state any merchandise on which merchandise or on its container there appears the words “Made in U.S.A.,” “Made in America,” “U.S.A.,” or similar words if the merchandise or any article, unit, or part thereof, has been entirely or substantially made, manufactured, or produced outside of the United States.
(b) This section shall not apply to merchandise made, manufactured, or produced in the United States that has one or more articles, units, or parts from outside of the United States, if all of the articles, units, or parts of the merchandise obtained from outside the United States constitute not more than 5 percent of the final wholesale value of the manufactured product.

Caveat Emptor...

Does anyone else find this irritating that Fender charges USA pricing for imported guitars, assembled in the USA???

Yeah, we love to love and love to hate, but I'd love a tele that connects with me.

As I'm reading this, sipping my 2005 Calon Segur, I can't much complain about a reasonably priced geetar... :io:

Mmm (although, these classic vibes have doubled in price (just like the SG faded...) in a short time.
I like the stuff from my hometown. It’s nice to know friendships in our families go back several generations. I have three or four bottles left. Need to make a visit back to the Hunsrück soon.
