Yes the E609 is a touch different than the sm57

Pick a speaker and I'll just use that one
V30, T75, Manowars, K100.
Then pick a tuning, Drop B, Drop C, Drop D, std...
I truthfully don't use the lead Channels very often. They are much different in tone between these 2 amps. The crunch Channels are much closer.


I'll stick the sm57 in the speaker you want and swap heads

Well then! Thanks! It would be ideal to: move the sm57 to the position that the E609 occupied, and the E609 to the position that the sm57 occupied in the above video “Marshall Mode Four VS Marshall TSL 100 Lead Channels”. Use the same guitar, tuning, and play the same material. Maybe title it mic swap, or some such?
You may just make me order a new Sennheiser mic ;) finally!

On it! The form factor is what sold me on them..nothing needed, just hang it and forget about it..
They tend to be a tad brighter than a 57 IMHO

You are right, it is darker, a lot more Marshall sounding too... A touch scooped (compared to the MF) the bottom end is thick and looser. Sparkling highs that sizzle. This amp gets better and better when you turn it up.

The MF is a lot punchier. Tight lows and actually there are more of them. As I'm playing this drop B heavy punchy stuff I like the MF more, but if I'm playing in standard or even drop D, the TSL shines.
The MF is a lot more versatile though, it's really 2 amps with 2 channels each, and 3 voicings per... Most people don't like the right side (high gain) of the amp and stay on the crunch side

IMHO of course.

Wow! The E609 does something really good, to my ears, for the Mode Four! Night and day difference there! The sm57 sounds like a 57 on both! Thanks for filling in on the other variables too! I had no idea what the cabs were loaded with…that was super enlightening! I’m gonna pop for a Sennheiser in the very near future…I liked what it did to the low mids when you swapped them. The 57 seemed kinda “mushier” there, in the previous video, but tightened right up with the 609.

I expected a pretty sizable difference between these two amps, but In this video the Mode four sounds more dull than I expected, while the TSL hammered away.


But swap the mic’s, and a different picture shows, to my ears…they are more evenly matched to my expectations, and your descriptions, in this video…


In the end, the 57 is what it always has been…the 609 has a different signature for sure. It would make a fine option to have in the mic locker!

Welcome buddy, happy to help out.
I like the e609 just fine, I treat them as interchangeable. I feel the 57 isn't as articulate maybe. But it's a lot more fickle where it is placed as well. The Sennheiser just get it close and it sounds great.

Quite a difference here I think between the mic's.

That's better, apples to apples. Both mics placed just on the edge of the dust cap "the sweet spot"
SM57 is 1st, E609 2nd. Celestion T-75 (the better one of the 2 in this cabinet.)


A lot of times when I record songs, I'll use both mics on different speakers to give a fuller sound.
Always depends on what I want out of the guitar tone for that song.

Excellent! Just waiting on the coffee…it’s early here(for me). Thanks for another example of the different flavor they each bring to the same source. Neither sounds “bad”. They just sound different. Mixed together, they may compliment each other. Throw in the variable of different (available) speakers, and you have so many possibilities for sonic footprints while recording. Having these choices can be really impactful when making a recording.
