YEA For Behsball

I like baseball. Cubs are my team. I sorta married into a Cub fan family. Most of the Cub games are broadcast on the Marque Network, which is carried by our cable provider. So we can catch pretty much any game we want to watch.

Yeah...I've always been a Cubs guy, too. Growing up in Northern Illinois, you sorta have to make that big choice early in life: Will you be a White Sox fan or a Cubs fan?

Growing up in western Illinois there were three choices. Cubs, Sox and Cards. My brother is a life long Cards fan. I mostly didn’t care. Then started dating my wife. Learned pretty quick the my future father in law rooted for two teams. The Cubs and whoever was playing the Cards. Might have been a deal breaker with his daughter had I dared suggested I was a Cards fan. I ain’t no dummy!! :pound-hand:

I get it!

The funny thing is, football was a slightly different story. Growing up where I did, not far from the Wisconsin border, the Green Bay Packers had a pretty strong fanbase. Of course, the Bears were the more popular team, but the Packers were well-represented, too.

Plus, I lived in southern Illinois for awhile, not far from St. Louis, Missouri. Even on the Illinois side, there was probably a slightly stronger fan base for the St. Louis Blues hockey team than the Chicago Blackhawks.

Spending my first almost 50 years on this rock living just south of the Quad Cities… most there were Bears fans. A few Packers. Early on, I was one of those Packer fans. Mainly because of Bart Starr. Yes. We did watch the very first Super Bowl.

Then during the Roger Starbach years, kinda became a Cowboy fan. That was when they were on the forefront of football as we know it today. Also when Tom Landry was coach. Then the current owner of the Cowboys bought the team. Fired Landry. One on the classiest guys to ever coach the game. It wasn’t so much that he did it. I get he wanted to put in his own staff. It’s how he did it. He crapped all over Landry. Had it been done today, it would have been handled by an underling via text or email. Jones didn’t have the balls or decency to look Landry in the face to tell him he was out. I’ve wished ill on the Cowboys since.

That’s when I became a Bears fan.

Phaze 1 completed 2 more to go. The reno is phenominal, can't wait to see what they do on the next 2 to come!
