NAD coming soon!

Installed it this morning. At first I wasn't impressed, but after swapping out the 12at7 with a 12ax7 was better, but I still wasn't impressed. Then it dawned on me to check the other tube, the 12AX7 that came in it is either going bad or wasn't seated properly, but when I swapped it out the thing came to life! I'm now getting the gain I was getting with 2 ODs out front without any pedals and then boosting it with a SD-1 takes it to insane levels. Just awesome!
I am amazed that it shipped with faulty tubes,, probably damaged en route..

It’s been a loooong time since I played enough to make my fingers hurt, but I haven’t been able to put my guitar down all day and my fingers are pretty sore right now. I already loved my amp, but now I LOVE my amp!

Update. I've been tweaking and trying different tubes and speakers and I have this beast dialed in pretty nicely now.

WGS Veteran 20 speaker won out over the Greenback and V type speakers. This speaker is a little under watt for this amp being even wattage, but I probably wont ever crank it to full volume so it shouldn't be an issue. If I ever do need to crank it up I'll plug in another cab, but for home use it's fine and it's a great sounding speaker in here.

V2 Mr Scary hot mod with 12ax7s. JJ 12ax7 in the PI and a High gain JJ in V1. I'm happy with these for now but I may roll some preamp tubes down the road.

Last thing is I just put some KT88 power tubes in and holy moly these made a huge difference! They made the amp sound 'bigger' with better bass response and the best part is they sweetened up the top end and removed some of the harshness in the upper mids. Well worth the price of admission!

Your amp must be low plate voltage and current just to get 20 watts out of a pair of EL34's
a KT88 should be 35 watts each my 1969 Park 75 has GEC KIT88 500+ volts B+ it's loud moves air through a 4 x 12 cabinet

I don't know anything about all that. I just know that the designers of this amp say you can use any power tube that fit's the sockets. I'm sure there's a more technical explanation. A few guys on the Marshall forum are using 6550s and that's what I was going to try, but couldn't find any in stock anywhere that weren't crazy expensive. One guy just put KT88s in his and posted a link to get them directly from china and they were much cheaper than anything I could find state side so I took a chance.

After watching that video he should have tried 6V6 I have that in one of my Trainwreck Express amps
I don't think 6v6 would be better. My Egnator Tweaker came with 6v6.
There is a comparison by Dave Brons on youtube between 6v6 and El84's. DYI Trainwreck circuit. It's a tough call but I think the El84's were better imho.

I swapped the 6v6's for Mesa Boogie 6l6's and what a improvement. I have 6550's I can try
The 15w DSL sounds pretty good with 6v6.

I had the power section changed out in my high gain Plexi from el84 to 6v6 a few years ago and it was a huge improvement. I hate the high end on el84s and since I got my SC, my first el34 amp, I found the el34s to be not much better. Going from el34s to KT88s was very similar to going from el84s to 6v6s.
