NPBD! New Patchbay Day!

I remember the head version of the Blue Voodoo being really raunchy.

In a good way. Should be growling once you get it attended to.
Yep….that’s what I have the guts of, spread out in the soldering area now…A BV-60 head…that just stopped working…no noise…no smoke….no clues given. It’s looking to be an open resistor in the PI circuit(and probably a failed cap that fed it some DC…). I’m still working up the courage to pull the boards, but that’s what I’ve gotta do. Does NOT look like fun…trust me.

Well….after blowing up @LiveeviL2000 ’s thread, looking for an A/B switch for his effects loops, I ordered this little ART T-patch 8 point patchbay. I was looking for a solution to a similar situation: sick of spinning amp heads around to re-patch effects loops and such. I also wanted to try some quick and easy wet/dry amp setups. This seemed like it would fit the bill well enough.
Well, come to find out, it actually works pretty well so far. For the simple patching of effects loops, it is flawless so far. As to the wet/dry amp setup, it works as expected, but there can be some low hum present. This was completely eliminated by using channel b on my Radial Big Shot ABY for its transformer isolated ground lift. So…..yay! Mission accomplished. I can keep my main amps effects loops patched into the patchbay, and just insert the send and return cables to the desired amp. All amps remain functional(as if they have a jumper cable inserted in the loop), and perform well, and quietly.
I’m going to have to look into a simple solution for the hum when feeding multiple amps…mainly because I’ve become very attached to the Big Shot ABY for my bass rig.

Alright then…a pic to start things off…

The above pic is of the patched setup for running the Laney as the master/dry amp, and the Phaez as the slave/wet amp. The tiny patchbay is on the top right side of the Phaez, and the Radial ABY is top near center.
So, the Laney’s fx send is tapped, but not interrupted, sent to the fx loop chain, the fx chain is returned to the isolated ground lift of the ABY, and patched into the effects return on the Phaez.
Holy smokes this sounds huge! Dead quiet too!
No video yet, I’m not feelin’ it right now…. I’m a bit under the weather.
I will throw some mic’s up in the near future though….14X12s…..this rig sounds brutal!

Dude great thread, and love that Phaez but all I see from that first pic is .....

 :victoire:

OK, ya got my interest. 1 hour left on a lighting deal.

Yep…I decided that I didn’t want the clock on that one…I don’t like clocks in my studio/fun space, I guess…Yes, there’s one on the wall, but has read the same time for 20 years now. It has been a “band joke” for a long time. Anytime someone wanted to quit early, the rest of us would point at it and say “WTF?!? It’s WAAAAY too early!”

We have a broken wooden clock in the wine tasting room. It’s set at 5 o’clock :rolf:

BTW That jam room of yours is pure porn
Thank you sir! I’ve just turned it into a convertible home theater to boot…gets me more time down there…more projects get done. I just finished cleaning up my little Vintage Club 20 combo, finally. It saw some pretty hard gigging over the years, and needed some TLC…

Yep…same page…mine is set 47 minutes past the usual start of practice…we’d all finish with, “it hasn’t even been an hour yet!!! And you wanna quit?!?!”

Those are great little amps and can be had cheap.
Indeed! Tiniest little 12 inch combo that absolutely rips! Cleans up pretty nice with the guitar volume, but will NEVER be accused of being a “clean” amp by any stretch. Played some decent sized rooms with the other guitarist in my band using it, and now it’s doing a great job as an armchair amp.

If I remember right they were made in the US so for like 3 bills you can get a killer little amp, best buy on the market.

Yep! I scored mine from David Brown (AKA dbb) back in the old ETSG days…too dirty for his tastes…just right for mine. He wanted it to go to someone that would get some joy, and use, from it. It has…for sure.
…and since I was just poking around in it last night, I can confirm…made in the USA. Which reminds me, I tried to jam my phone inside for a pic of the “Crate” branded speaker EIA code…I still have to look into that…it sounds super beefy.
Great little Marshalesque amp.

@C-Grin … Well….that was easy….Eminence. Exactly what I figured it would be. But I wasn’t positive because it doesn’t “sound like” the typical Crate “stock speaker” that I’m accustomed to hearing.

Alright then! WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I just ran this rig in a rough wet/dry/wet configuration, and it was like being bathed in sound! Sweetness!
I say “rough” because I’m no master of these types of setups….and the patchbay wasn’t involved in the third amp due to its position in the room. Essentially, I ran it like I did previously: the Laney and Phaez in the patchbay. The Phaez fx return running effects (left channel of loop effects) tapping off of the Laney uninterrupted send. I ran a cable from the right channel of the loop effects to the effects return on my Classic 30 (with a Celestion V30 on board)also pushing a WGS loaded Orange PPC112. This saved a cable run to the patchbay, otherwise it achieved the same end result.
The Phaez was pushing a WGS loaded 2x12.
The Laney was pushing two 4x12 cabs.
First power up, there was buzz present in the Classic 30. This was fixed with a transformer isolated ground lift, resulting in a dead quiet rig….at least with the Laney clean channel engaged. The dirt channel is a little hissy this evening, just a slight bit.
So 12 X 12 inch speakers, with eight of them being pushed by the master/dry amp. My new decibel meter peaked out, with is angry red crying face, at 112dBA. It was beautiful!

Other weirdness…seemingly zero volume control over the Classic 30 with this setup. There is no master volume on this amp. It did happen to balance nicely with the others though. Also, when I use my Boss LS7 to shut off the loop effects, it effectively mutes the Classic 30. I did expect this behavior due to the routing. I did not expect that it would be as noticeable as it was.

There is a well know TTR rule. I believe it’s in the TTR CONSTITUTION. 1st amendment, section 1, paragraph 1, line 1
It’s states
Without audio and/or video clip … it didn’t happen!
Soon….. I’m still a bit under the weather, and now I’m gimpy too… Perhaps after the game tonight, I’ll throw some slop together…if the beer stays in check….no guarantees. But I will try. It sounds soooooo freakin’ good! Dunno if I’ll be able to do it justice.
I just got it today.
I told my wife she can’t complain if the smiley face isn’t red.
And if it is red it will do her no good, because I won’t be able to hear her anyway! :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:

Wow! So you guys like the clock ones, huh?! My battery just went red too…it’s warm, dry, and quiet there! Congratulations!
