Gonna Try Something a Little Different...

I gots nothing against having just one or two guitars, but I will say this: I have 6 Les Pauls and although incredibly similar to one another, each one feels and sounds unique (different size necks, different neck angles, diffferent frets, different pickups, different electronics, different neck woods, etc) and as a result each one inspires me differently, which in turn results in different sounds coming out of each one, which in turn does, frankly, make me a better player. What I mean is, although I prefer the Les Paul form factor to all others and that's all I buy, I still have 6 very different guitars that all do something useful and I could never get this versatility from a single instrument and therefore never discover certain aspects of my playing.
Yep agreed. I play differently with different guitars. An LP with 10s I play differently from the EVH or Prestige or Mockingbird with 9s.
More gear doesn't make me better, per se, I played for years with only one guitar. But they all have their flavours.
Many people own more than one vehicle too.

But you can also do it with more. When you need whammy bar the LP just don't cut it! I am adding to the herd. Cause I like it not because I am incompetent with only 1 guitar.

I currently gig with three - My Les Paul, my Strat, and my Jackson. The Jackson gives me that '80s vibe when necessary and it has the Floyd for doing things that Floyds do!

But it wouldn't make me any more money....and that's the bottom line.

I do, sometimes, play with guys who bring 3-4 guitars to a gig. To each their own.

Rarely am i tasked with whammy on a commercial recording. If needed, i can use the Spray Can Yellow Stratocaster, which never leaves the trunk of my car, no matter the weather.

Our crew here at Capitol are sitting here in the 7th floor lounge debating this thread.

I own one car.

Never owned an automatic.

My rate is $175/hour on my Les Paul or a plastic Hello Kitty acoustic.

That's a lot!!!!

I used to pull out the DoubleNeck for Hotel California, although admittedly, it was largely just for show.

The last time i used 2 guitars (live) was when we played the February 2022 NASCAR show at Fontana Raceway.

I played Blacktop Mojo's 'In Color' in D Standard specifically for our vocalist's range.

Live performance. Spare guitar if nothing else. Not studio.

A stop tail for drop D etc . One whammy guitar, sometimes 2. Different flavours. Potential string break or other issues. Stuff happens live.

Yep...

I never worry about strings breaking on my Les Pauls. Scott at Stringjoy examined some of my strings and told me why the Strat is killing strings, which was super cool.

Im using the old YelloStrat right now to record our cover of 'Wicked Sensation' just for the tremolo dips.

You used to use the Yellow Strat tho for whammy stuff. To each his own.
I use 2 - 3. Sometimes the doubleneck.

Very rare the YelloStrat comes out of the trunk. it is literally stored in there 24-7

I wouldn't leave a set-neck guitar in a trunk, but the Strat's 1-3/4" Warmoth neck seems impervious to temperature extremes.

I've done a lot of live stage support for bands. I find that very fun. I can restring a guitar in the span of one song.

Right now I have a choice of a Les Paul or....a Les Paul :p I have been thinking of swapping one for something else but I like them. I keep hooking up my Son In Law and my Daughter's Son In Law.....
I think I am going to piece together a nice fat Strat this year. I had a couple sweet Fender Dlx Strats I loved & should have kept, one was a metallic surf green Dlx with a rosewood board & this was the other...

There’s nothing wrong with that!

Nuthin’ wrong with using guitars for a little eye candy. It is a show after all.

I'm starting to slow things down. Goals have all been met. All the remodeling is completed. I'm not even sure I'm gonna keep teaching for the music school.

Funny thing...my work ethic has made me obsolete.
