Best Source For 1/2" Oversize Mahogany Dowels:

Tell me where to see these posts of the mis drilling. I don't know where you posted them.

It wouldn't be hard to fix. Just plug and redrill. But, I also noticed I got the floor profile of the nut shelf off a little (filed by hand) and that I am not happy with either, so that would need to be addressed and that means cutting the shelf lower to fix it and I just got tired of looking at it hanging on the wall.

I think my Dad wants to make my Mom a clock out of it.

NO NO NO NO NO,

Robert. DO not get impatient here. YOU put a ton of work into this and now is not the time to get a little frustrated when the fixes are really just a calm head more than the actual process of the fixes.

Robert,

I am wondering something.

Did you drill the tailpiece holes in the right place but just off-center?
In other words, the right distance away from the bridge etc?

Did you already drill bridge holes too? Off-center as well, or what?

I am trying to offer solutions, but I can't "diagnose by phone" as I used to tell customers of mine when I worked in the service dept at the Porsche Audi dealer.

Tailpiece is correct distance, but I'm off to one side...

Here are my experiences with LP Bridges and Tail Pieces.

As you may know, my Epi LP had egg-shaped Tail piece holes that the grommets would LIFT out of them and head NORTH toward the Bridge.
I installed dowels/plugs with hide glue and redrilled believe it or not, by hand. The remaining meat of the plugs were so negligible glued to the sides of the hole, that one cannot even tell they were repaired except for there is no more lifting of the grommets.

Then, on my '79 LP. The older Nashville bridge grommets did the same thing, so I glued in plugs again, drilled, and installed bushings into the properly tight holes and she is good as new. No one can even see the ever-so-slight traces of wood under the grommet flanges.

IMO, this fat SG project should be finished as a proper working guitar and not as a fricking clock. I would love to take over this project. Since most of the hard work has been done, I would have a locally skilled woodworker plug and redrill the misplaced tailpiece holes, and level the shelf for the nut.

Maybe the same woodworker, or somebody else, could professionally spray on a final finish and let it cure at their facility. I would even consider some inlay work at the headstock. All I would have to do is assemble the hardware and electronics.

Definitely NOT a CLOCK

BTW, Sysco, I am sure Robert can do a proper fix, I have been doing my best to get his mindset fixed to see it through.
I mean, HOW hard is it to glue in 2 plugs? I even posted a link to where he can buy 15 of em for $3 and then all he has to do is re-mark his holes and drill them right the 2nd time. I mean, HOW far off could he have drilled them the first times?

I am sure the marks for holes will fall somewhere in these new plugs and with properly center-punched starter dents for his drill bit to not wander.
I am sure he can do it. NOW, Robert, just take your time.

I‘ve always turned plugs from mahogany scrap on a lathe. Make a very good, accurate measurement of the hole, then turn the diameter to a slight press fit. Match the grain direction as pressing the plug into the glued hole.

Very good suggestions!

Robert, HOW FAR OFF WERE you? More than 1/8th?

I can see maybe being off between 1/16 to 1/8 at most. Farther than that and I would have to say, your eyes must have been super tired.
How the heck could you miss measure, then actually drill in the wrong place?

Glad you didn't drill for the bridge.

Way more than 1/8"
