Let’s talk Strings

That was a great article.
Nice find.

It explains why I can play certain songs easier on one guitar and not the other.
I use 10s on the G400 and 9s on the Tele and Strat. To my uneducated fingers it does seem the “G” is a little more bendy than the Strat. Both WAY more bendy that the 12s I use on the acoustic. :pound-hand:

As for one easier than the other?? Jury’s out on that one. I think it may depend on what I’m doing. Some days I struggle on one and kill it on the other. And then next day it flips. Might help if I had a clue what exactly it is I’m doing.

And Sapient, What might that package look like..Hmm
Bulky ones have been, are, and will always be an absolute pass in this end of the woods.

Then there's that Big Bend's Nut Sause. Wait until they are big enough for an office with a secretary that has to answer phones. If they are not already.

not sure i understand "bulky ones"

Yeah. Noticed that when I put 10s on mine since that was all I had. Didn’t take long to try 9s. Much better.

I break strings too often on 25.5" scale guitars....had a long discussion with Stringjoy to figure it out. Even sent in my broken strings for analysis.

That's great. Seems all packages have been good for you. (y)
So, explain to me, are you getting mangled packaging which causes you to get wonky or unreliable strings?

Somehow, I guess I am wrong that something seemingly so simple is to be a non factor. But even something as simple as packaging 6 strings into a box or plastic envelope of just large enough size to hold all 6 has become a failure prone endeavor for some string companies.

It happened to me with a set of EB 10s.
The high E was all kinked up in the package. And it happened a couple of times.
But considering the amount of strings I’ve bought in my life, it seems to be a low percentage of that happening.

It’s been a bit since I’ve purchased strings. Bought several sets and haven’t used them up….. since I don’t play like many of you and don’t kill strings as fast…. I don’t have to change as often.

That said. To date I haven’t had an issue with getting questionable strings. Who knows what I’ll find next time I order.

Chili ...it was a winkie-a-doodle-do joke from the question's very origin.

After decades of using .010" D'Addario XL110s on all my electrics, I've been stepping down a bit in gauges. My hands aren't as strong as they used to be - partly from age, and partly because I'm not playing as much as when I was a working guitarist.

So I'm in the process of switching to .0095 sets on the 24¾" scale guitars (and 25" scale PRSs), and going to .009s for 25½" scale ones.
Had considered pure nickel for the Fenders, then realized it only makes a difference on the wound strings. I like the low strings bright.

Might even have to switch to .009s for everything one of these years - depends on how my hands hold up as I age.

Also switching to Elixirs on the steel-string acoustics. Tried them a couple of years ago; coating really does make them last much longer.
I might stick with Martin Marquis for the HD28, not sure. Will decide when the time comes. I don't play my acoustics as often these days.

I’ve tried D’Addario strings but they just don’t seem worth the extra $$. They do sound a bit brighter. But I will go with what I know.
D'Addario and Slinky sets cost the same; AFAIK they always have (at least since the 70s).
There are some D'Addarios that cost more, but those are specialty strings like stainless or pure nickel, and the pricier NYXLs.

Haven't experimented with any of the brighter sounding hard-alloy strings out of consideration for my frets.

I can get EB Slinky sets for a couple bucks less per pack. I can’t find any deals on D’Addarios.
