Guitar picks

Well, to a guitar guy , a pick is not just a pick. There are many makes and many styles out there. The thing is because of variety is finding the right one for you. I have tried hundreds of different ones out there and finally just over a year ago I have found the pick for me.

.96mm celluloid. I like it because it has some flexability which is great for strumming and yet firm enough for doing notes for those lead sessions.

I purchased my own custom made picks from Ego Custom guitar picks out of Winnipeg, Canada,

When you play a lot, like i do, it doesnt take that long to go through picks. I think their prices are very good and am happy with the quality and the service they gave me.

If you are looking for Custom picks, they are worth looking into..just a note the yellow ones glo in the dark..

I need to order some more picks honestly. Over the years I've tried different shapes and sizes and what I prefer mostly is at least an .88mm gauge these days but I'd be open minded to trying even thicker sizes. Shape wise, I really like the Rounded Diamond because I got wide fingers and I can hold them a lot easier.

The one I used a lot and has been a favorite is the Dunlop Ultex .88mm like this because they are built like tanks.

I ordered some custom picks from D'Addario. I got our band's logo on one side and the QR code that links to our Facebook page on the other.

Periodically, I'll do a solo and toss the pick out to the crowd. I keep a pick holder on my mic stand so I always have another pick ready to go.

Two things....

Stipling for retention

Beveled edge for smooth transition

Yeah I went to look at ordering there and saw they were on hiatus until the new year unfortunately lol in the meantime, I ordered some Dunlop Ultex 1.14mm rounded Triangle picks. I'm gonna also order some heavier, just to try them out but I've had a lot of luck in the .88mm so I dunno how much heavier I should go. I'll try some upto 2.0mm and just see I suppose

Nothing fancy for me. Been using Fender mediums since something in the 70s.
I liked Fender for a long time, still occasionally use a Fender Heavy laying around here. There's the big secret: I got a ton of random picks and just use whatever I grab most of the time lol got my favorites but I'd be a liar if I said I didn't use nearly anything

For a long time, I used 2mm graphite Adamas picks. I think I still have one somewhere. I bought several of them back in the '80s.

As I recall, they went out of production for awhile, but they are back under the Dunlop banner.

I should grab a few, just for old time's sake!

(Five minutes later....)

Hey, I found my Adamas pick!

Yay!

I've had this bad boy since around 1987, I think. It was in my 1974 Gibson SG case.

Here's the front:

And the rear:

The embossing on the front and the rear gives good grip to the pick. Being 2 mm thick and made of graphite, they are virtually indestructible. Plus, they are very resistant to wear from the strings, even the wound strings.

I like the mediums. Have tried the heavies and just didn’t get comfortable. Always used thins on the 12 string…. Probably would use mediums today if the guitar was fit to play.

I didn't realize Lisa was taking a break. I do need some more customs.
I use the rounded triangle #346 Fender heavy, partly because they are white, easier to see on a dark stage plus I get 3 pointy parts for the price of one!!

I keep a bunch in a holder too. I tend to toss quite a few out, depending on the show. I will find fun ways to do it - bat with back of hand kick em, head butt... :D
Will look for some video or pull stills of pick throws.
